Default Sold a car, now buyer wants to bring it back

Hi all.

Just wanted some opinions on this situation.

Sold a car on ebay (classified ad) we were using it happily till the gear linkage broke so it has stood around for 6 months until we decided to just get rid.

Listed it on ebay as spares or repair, explained that it had done 250k miles and that the gear linkage had broken.

A potential buyer comes to look at it, he is a mechanic, looks over the car and offers £225 which we accept, a week later he picks it up and drives it away in 3rd gear. That was yesterday.

Today he wants to bring it back explaining that it needs an alternator, rear axle bushes, gear linkages.

What do I do?

Thanks (feeling stressed)

As above,

tell him to do one!, the car was advertised as 'spares or repair' so it was hardly a minter that didn't want any work doing to it

What did the buyer expect!

Some buyers on eBay are mongtards

Tell him to piss off, you advertised it as spares or repairs so he should've checked it over better before buying it and driving it away.

even though it was 'sold for spares' i think not.

if it was a normal sale then yes but not as spares.

sold seen tried and tested

as a memeber of the motor trade he will know for a fact that he has not got a leg to stand on because you do not need to give any warranty of garranty, and only a member of the motor trade would.

he came round and tested the car and being a mechanic should have found these on his viewing, so as above tell him to do one, he has no come back on it

its a tough situation but your not the expert, he is and you did list it as "spares of repairs" so he should have known what he was buying

Your only obligation under the sale of goods act for a private sale of a used car is that it must be described honestly, it does NOT have to be fit for purpose, and even if it did, when sold as "spares or repairs" the purpose is exactly that anyway.

Tell him he is welcome to bring it back if he no longer wants it and you will only change him an additional 100 pounds for disposing of it for him.

You sold it as spares or repairs, tell him he's just found out what the repairs are and to fuck off cheeky bastard.
