What variant of Zetec?

Idle valve or PCV and associated pipework that has perished are known to cause the above issue.

Yeah sounds like a good place to start as any. Give it clean out with some brake cleaner/degreaser then lubricate it back up again with a bit of WD-40 or some oil. I'm not overly familiar with the details of the silvertop 130s but the idle valve would be located on the inlet somewhere on the underside of it as per the blacktop if it is the same inlet setup. The PCV and pipework are located at the front of the block if the same as the blacktop and go around the side of the engine below the coil pack and behind the inlet.
