kwikfit does it for £30 if booked online, seems to be fair! Should i look further or is that it as far as cheap MOT's go?

+2 for halfords auto centre. One down the road from work has done it for half price (£27.42) for the past two years and they haven't tried to con me for work that didn't need doing. In fact its passed no problem and thats a 13 year old focus with 123,000 miles on the clock which you wouldn't complain if they decided to tell you it needed a shock or something!

There are links for the Halfords half price deal usually on banners of car site. There was one at the top of this site when I had the MOT done a few weeks ago. Try on the normal Halfords website, see if one pops up there.

Make sure they do free re-tests. Cheaper ones sometimes don't!

The halfords in chippenham mot'd a guy i used work withs m3 a few years back. They had it overnight for some reason, and when the owner got a knock from the police asking why he was on cctv driving like a complete cunt around chippenham high street that night, he went back to halfords the next day not a very happy bunny

I pay £40.
Always take it to a mot centre that doesn't do work on cars as there's no gain for failing it just to generate cash.
Plus always free retests.
Headlight aim etc should usually be free within reason but I know one guy who charges full ministry rates and £7.50 a headlight to alter, and guess what?
They always need altering!!!!
Needless to say he's not turning work away right now.

We charge 40 quid.

Local Ford garage doing them at £27, had some regular customers of mine take their cars there cos they are so cheap. Both failed, I checked them over and didn't agree with most of the failures, the Vectra was quoted at 500 quid to get through and a Punto 150 quid to do front pads and discs! And if you didn't get the work done with them, you had to pay the £27 retest fee!!!

Needless to say we ended up doing an MOT on them both, and did the work to get them through the MOT.

Cheapest is not always best, some places are looking to recoup the cheap MOT by failing the car on work it doesn't need doing.

Now that is just bad, we normally just adjust it for the customer it takes 2 seconds to do, fast fit centres mot or just service centres are rip offs

they over charge/rip off customers because after giving you an half price/discounted MOT they need to get that money back, so they find fault with diddly shit
i remember going into that fast-fit chain that FORD bought and sold a few years back, i wanted a quote for an exhaust, they put it up on the ramp, they next thing i know im being quoted for worn shocks as well, they weren't leaking or bouncing more than normal, the motorist is a cash cow i never used them again

Wow what a joke, we get the all the time as an mot tester ourselves we've seen some dogs of cars, last week we had an old bloke come in that failed a mk4 golf on 2 drop links which Wernt excessive(kwik fit) so we changed the links as requested as we dropped the car down we heard a clonk from the rear and as it was a vdub I checked the rear bushes and the near side had no rubber in it at all..... This is how bad they are that they fail a car on something not dangerous but then ignore a serious fault

I've been paying £35 for few years now, but go to independant garage where the guy is firm but fair. He has even mentioned things that not mot'able but need attention and I've fixed them myself, so he not even touting for business, but has done few bits for me when needed.

Not the cheapest in the area, but I happy to pay and travel bit further for garage and mechanic I know and trust.
