Any diesels that will rival an ST225?
Once I've got the new job this week..I'm after a new car.
At the minute am really fancying a Focus ST225...however Al in the pub was saying that I'd be better off getting a diesel as they can be just as quick but half the fuel.
I've been trying to find some but my google-fu is pants.
So, what diesel cars do 0-60 in 6ish seconds?
(Ideally max 11k cost and 5 years old or less)
Also been considering a 3l series 3 coupe...good mpg and quick too.

Anything with a relatively powerful diesel engine will be quick. 330d would be the obvious choice and once remapped will probably be able to keep up and pull away from a modified ST225. If you are not doing mega mileage however, then an ST225 would be a much more fun car to own and won't cost as much to maintain as the BMW. Tyres, brakes, servicing etc all cheaper with the Ford and also diesels with their EGRs and DPFs can result in costly repairs.

One car I've been looking at lately is a Jaguar S Type diesel Sport. They're a 2.7 V6 Twin turbo! Seem to respond nicely to a remap. Supposed to be a good engine from what I've heard, anyone know?
I've actually got a V6 petrol S Type at the moment (on semi perm loan from a relative) & it's nicely loaded, sounds the part. Got me thinking about getting a sport diesel.

There aren't any diesels that'll do a six second 0-60. I have a 530d sport, and its quick and torquey but not fast. If you want a focus st, get a focus st....simples

What about a Leon FR, little remap should see about 215bhp with about 400nm torque. they 170 bhp and 350 n/m torque as standard. look ok aswell.

Absolutely cracking cars. My mates has had one for a couple of years now and he's replacing it this week with a new megane turbo thingy as he does no miles anymore. His is white with the full k1 body on it

Really fancy a jaguar s-type 2.7 aswell, drove a 3.0 petrol recently and was really suprised by it, i loved it so would imagine the diesel will be just as good except more torque and better mpg. Seen a few locally for Ł4.5k aswell which seem a bargin. Same engine as used by landrover in the discovery three and apart from the usual diesel egr/turbo/injector issues all seems good!

Jesus, I must have me head checked.
Am seriously thinking about a 2008 or younger BMW 320D then remap asap. As standard has similar 0-60 as my ST170 with over 40MPG.

If you get a late 320d with the 177bhp engine, then they are quite tuneable apparently... the guy that mapped my 123d said that because older 320d were prone to blowing turbos, BMW fitted quite a large unit to the later models to make sure failures were few and far between. Seem to remember him saying that c250bhp wasn't too much of a struggle to find.
My 123d has around 270bhp and 370lbft and it really nips along nicely.
Cheers,
Grant

Unless you're going to be doing loads of miles just get what you want. If that's a Focus ST then get one. Nothing worse than getting a car to be sensible rather than the car you want.
