Question FAO Painters-etch or epoxy?

will in the next few weeks have a shell underside down to metal, want the best long lasting finish, but also once I've got it to metal, I'm seam welding it, intend on covering the bare metal, then have some other body modifications to do before its sealed, high build, painted and laquered so need some flexibility time wise before I carry on.

Question is whats the best thing to apply to bare metal, etch primer and if so which ones?

Or epoxy primer as I've heard it said its the thing to use these days, and again which one?

Much appreciate the answers of either professionals or knowledgeable enthusiasts.

personally i would etch it if there some work to be done to the underside dont want to put anything to heavy on if your cutting and welding as last thing you want is for metal dust and burs getting in the paint

I've been using 'Custom Epoxy 421' and it seems very good, you paint it straight on bare metal and it's non porous meaning no moisture can get through to cause problems even if you store the car out in the rain!
