Default Help needed. series 1 massively over fueling

Just took my rs turbo series 1 for its first mot in 7 years. All was going well for 15 minutes or so then it started to run like i had pulled the choke on. It wouldnt tick over and is coughing and popping. The exhaust and the plugs are really black and sooty. The car is giving out black smoke also. Any ideas as to whats gone wrong please. Stacey

Could be as simple as needing a set up. I'd see a local tuner.

how old is the fuel?
if it's six months or more, could just need a fresh supply.

It has a new tank and fresh petrol. the fuel pump gave up so i replaced it with my friends standard 4x4 saph cosworth one which looked identical. i was gonna try and call oddkid creations as i have heard they are great with rs turbos but cannot find a contact number anywhere.

Water temp sensor plug come off or corroded? ( yellow plug) , also the metering heads really don't like been stood prob corroded up on plunger and linkage, try wiping around the air flap to with some solvent, make sure it's clean and free.
