I'm on my second Mondeo. Can't fault it for space, running costs etc.

Missus has an S Max, simply a superb family vehicle. Been faultless for 4 years.

If boot space is important, a Mk4 Mondeo has to be worth considering.

BMW 335d, does 28mpg with a heavy foot round town and over 50mpg at between 70 & 80 on the motorway, plus is 286 bhp and 427lbs/ft or torque, this car pulls hard from 1500 rpm or get a 330d, not much less performance but a lot cheaper

Some of these "sports tourers" have woefully small boots. The Insignia for instance is shockingly small! My old Mk2 Mondeo estate had more space in the boot.

i just got a volvo xc70 for work and its mega....quite impressed and 40mpg aswell. mondeo mk4 20tdci titanium x sport would have been the choice, proper nice car but the extra ride height and 4x4 was what was needed. v50 is a smart car too.

merc estates are a nice thing.
330d/335d are quick and cheap to run.
a4 avant is another nice motor 2.7tdi will pull well and not stand out.
mondeo estates are alright, not my first choice unless we are talking budgets.

to be honest since ive had it ive hardly done any long journeys in it as i work 600 yds from work and the furthest it goes every week is a 3 mile drive to the stables to take my daughter. its showing an average of 36ish at the mo.when i do get a run on the motorway(although not a very long one!) at 70ish,with the cruise control on it shows 46-50mpg.mine is also the 2.0 turbo diesel one with 6 speed manual box.
we have had a few passats in work since i got the v50 and just dont like the way they feel inside in comparison the the volvo.the r-design ones look awesome.
