4wd transmission rear mounted is very expensive especially if you want big power

The rs200 engine is actually mounted back to front so that the gearbox sits in the tunnel between the passengers and transfers the power through the step off to the back wheels

In the kits the engine is mid mount with the gearbox at the rear. The only 4x4 box available at anything like realistic money would be from a 911 4x4 but this is also mounted like a 200 so you would have to turn the engine around and also spin the box 180 degrees otherwise it would have one forward gear and 5 reverse

Having said that the panther solo made use of the 4x4 cossie box but was also set up like the 200 so that may have also spun the box 180 degrees but it must have used a 50/50 step off otherwise most of the power would have been going to the front wheels so that may be an option if you can find the right step off which I believe are rare and expensive

Chester - how much do you know about the Panther Solo's? Me girlfriends dad has one stashed in a warehouse at the back of the house! Never really had a good nose around it but knew they were cossie engined... Have you any info about them? His one is number 30 i think (H5 5OLO).

As for the gearboxes, didnt Renault have one available?

Cheers
Chris

The real ones aren't SILLY money anymore and the replicas are hardly cheap. So by the time you have fooked around making it 4wd and everything you are going to be alot nearer genuine RS200 money than you would think...

Then think about the horror stories of how shonky the reps can be, coupled with the fact that you are also going to be playing around with it alot... then look at how much more money the genuine one is going to be worth if you ever needed to sell...

Just my thoughts

Sorry dont know a lot about the solo other than it used a yb with I believe an Mt75

What Rs200s are advertised at and what they sell for are 2 different things - I think they tend to actually go for around 30k which as Porkie said is not far off replica money

I made a slight error regarding the Porsche box, it would not need to be spun 180 degrees as it would be configered correctly as its already set up that way but the engine would have to be swapped around.

its not for me i got asked the wuestion by someone and id said ill try and get more info from them

the replicas are not the maestro based ones

there the ones where you buy the chassis and body but in kit form
they say it would cost around 15 grand to build one from scratch on there website

but this is rwd cos yb lump and using a renualt transverse gearbox

i got asked if it could be done to 4wd

ill try and find the link

but so far some really interesting info going on
