i was talking to a mate of mine today who had a friend look at a red a4 last week and the car had being fully painted due to the laquer lifting ,which seemingly is a very common problem on red coloured a4,s

Try and get a close up picture of the defects, it may not be as bad as you think, if your lucky it may flat out and polish.

Im a painter mate, there is a few things it could be but difficult to say without seeing it. It could be bits of dirt in the paint, if it is your lucky as it can most likley be polished out which wont be too expensive. If its a problem with the paint and there tiny blisters then it will all need to be taken off and start again which is gunna be costly obviously, most likley issues would be- water or damp in the air due to the bodyshop not having water traps and a dryer on their compressor, damp on the panel when it was painted if it not been done in a spraybooth, if its been done using waterbase it could be that it wasnt fully dry when the laquer was put on- reds are a pain to cover and you need more coats than usual which can take a while to dry.

Someone has deffo had a go at sanding that panel, either that or they have painted it on with a fucking brush!

Nothing in the documentation you got with it to say when/if it was painted and where, go have a word with the dude you purchased it from if he is just around the street!

Yes mate I've wiped it as it has rain drops on but the bumps you can see is what I'm talking about and on the pics it looks faded but actually isn't

I've spoke to the guy I bought it off and he says he never noticed it and he hasn't had it painted and to be honest I believe him he, he's got 2 businesses on the go always busy and told me when I bought it he didn't use it it was just his girlfriends car to take the kids to school and back. He was genuine in every other way

How long is a piece of string?
Depends who does it and what kind of a job you want and I doubt anyone can give you a price without seeing it for themselves.

MONSTER!! Thats a stunner, love these Audi's!!

Right lets go to the bone.

That is simply appalling, and deffo looks like its been gobbed up, then sanded by a guide dog.

the only way is the hard way on this and that is a complete re-paint imop..

If thats the standard over the rest of the car then there is no way a blow in of individual panels is gonna sort that, as lbh if that is gob, there is no way i would pay to have a re-prime/paint over that, bet its nasty under the gob..and the only way to find out is.....and were back in a full circle sadly.

Plus colour match on that will be VERY difficult, modern colours are so lightly applied from factory, your reliant on the colour itself(strength of pigment) and the fact its all done in one go, so its applied very evenly, if not a bit peely..But atleast when robot painted there's non of this popping off for a tommy tank half way round which seems to be the score in most shops of a less caring nature, hence you need a very patient painter!!
And its applied onto straight metal..no gob, so colour/laquer sit right on the panels, hence look so even...being red the primer app is paramount or it will bleech...im droning now lol sorry chap...

Imop Options are..

Flat off, re-prime/paint...gonna need to be some seriously high building shit to hide those canyon's... and try to just "hide it" under fresh colour/Laq...mask up on the quick and bosh.
Could you live with that...nah its too sweet for that!!

Or For Me thats a complete re-paint, if "no" gob under there then its alot less work..but its gonna need to be re-primed anyway so imop strip it all off and start again, SOOOOOOO much better in the long run as you know that the preps right 1st....

But its bridge and cross sadly..

Or KICK the sellers teeth in for a partial re-fund...towards it.

Ooooor bit extreme this...
key it up nice and get the insurance on it..just use a MAIN DEALER shop or propper classic/prestige restorer..

Price.. well piece of string, id like to see it done all in for about Ł3k, lotta hours if metal is needed so id go get some quotes/op's anyways, USE a VW approved if poss, you DO have a comback then..

tearing it back is the easy part..its trim removal, masking, materials, and the cost of the labour to do so..hence its been done the way it has probably....simply to expensive for someone who squeeks when they walk.

if its too dear, well, thats another ball park..

Either way All the best fella, i am truely feeling your heartbreak, lotta cash/saving/emotion's obviously gone into you getting that..

Such a cool car , hope you can afford to get it the love it deserves

Bill Heaneys used to be the place for 'higher end' car paint jobs. Unsure if they still going though as ive been out the trade myself for years now.

It really looks like water is an issue...in terms of the more spaced out blemishes however there alot clustered together closet to the chrome strip that is suspect also. Look like you have atleast a couple of issue on that panel and imo its unlikly to to be rectified without taking it right back and starting again.

Seek advice from Audi though mate and do some research on paint warranty ect.
