Compression ratio doesnt really make a big difference to Lag BTW, you still generate the same amount of exhaust gas more or less at lower CR, you just dont get as much power from it cause you arent working it hard enough.

Of course compression ratio dont make any difference to lag!...BUT it does give more torque below boost the higher you go..thats what i want and will have,a lovely drivable car round town with a bit of power once on boost

Porkie not asking for help..asking if anyone knows when a GT35 with EITHER housing spins up..you fail to ever see the question properly so your answer would be no good as clearly you know less than me Tip for you...try reading, digesting then engaging brain to fingers

Didnt really expect too much in replies here as clearly some owners all wear blindfolds or are as thick as two short planks or both!

Phil, for what its worth i think the higher CR theory is a perfectly sound one for your particular application.
Given that the only time it will be making major power is when its on race fuel, i see no point in running low CR, and then for normal road use as you say it will be more responsive with the higher CR.

Id probably go one stage further at that point if i were you, id bin the GT35 and fit a GT30 or GT28RS, as then it will spool sooner of course, no point having a massive turbo and only wanting it to make moderate power.

Why ? If you can achieve the response you require from a (safer) lower compression engine (with correct turbo, cam and headwork spec), then why resort to a set up that may cause you problems with the crap fuel we have to use in this country?

You want to be setting your goals in response and then building the engine to run the LOWEST compression that will achieve your requisites, NOT choosing your compression ratio and then building the engine around that, as it will be a dreadful compromise .

Ians engine went bang because of a fookin absolutly embarrasingly crap watesgate installation, did you see the pics???
my aims were for approx 500+BHP and loads of torque and drivability, I don't want a mega revvy peaky engine, as they fook all use on the road IMHO.
I was considering going 600+bhp, but from what I have seen/read it seems to be a lot of hassle, ie followers every 8000 miles, lots of ring wear etc, solid lifters , and I cant decide if I want all the hassle

Go for it you wont be dissapointed
I know mine is in a shonky old dolomite but i have driven Karls 3 door and i did expect it to be laggy and a dog to drive but was amazed at how responsive and drivable it was around town ,Thats what swung me to have the same engine as Karl
