I'm looking to get some rigid sheets but there seems to be quite a few different types, what's the difference between them all?

different types for different applications, most common is using a core material ranging from a fabric to foam, it all depends on budget and what it is for. To have a rigid sheet of carbon can prove to be very expensive as a guide, two layers of industry standard 200gram carbon fibre with be less than half a mm thick, so to get a sheet of "carbon fibre" which is 5mm thick like the ones on the bay would cost an absoloute fortune and not the "£30" people quote, ie those sheets are not carbon fibre

theres a very big miss conception about carbon fibre ! carbon fibre is simply a heat treated fibreglass so when someone says its not real carbon when theres fibreglass on the back is talking bollocks because it is all fibreglass ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Now carbon fibre backed with fibreglass is just one way to reinforce carbon but has no real structual strengh just looks the part !Now as Raj states there are many ways to get a thick sheet , if you want pure carbon and made strong then it would need to be tri axi i.e first layer weave pointing one direction then change the direction in each layer of twill , the average twil for sale is 2x2 200 gsm which average price is £22 mtr in raw form .
If its just to mount a gauge or a door card then the fibreglassed stuff is ample if you want a bulk head or floor panel then yiou will need the carbon reinforce with foam or alloy honey shell would be better
