Could mean reg change? Like a private plate was put on and they requested an MOT certificate?

After a little google it can also mean things like the name of Make/Model on the certificate depending on what the tester puts in. For example 1 tester could put FORD ESCORT, next year a different tester could put FORD ESCORT RS TURBO.

Could it mean discrepancies in mileage?

If all the mileages work out and look legit then i'd say no. It should list what changes have been made but im assuming it doesn't.

Found it, Some call the car a cupra where as others are cupra R plus it was on a private plate for a year,

would you guy say 7 owners on an 03 plate car is a bad thing?

To be fair id say its expected to be high on a Cupra R or anything else that falls into the 'Hot Hatch' Category. Usually the first owner is the longest then people buy it for a 6 - 12 month toy then sell on. Wouldn't walk away from it just because it has 7 owners in 10 years anyway!

Im going to do a proper HPi check before I take the train ride to devon,
Its a nice motor. The only thing that is a worry is the guy has only owned it since october and works in the bodywork trade,
Made me wonder if its un recorded damage he has repaired to sell on.

Here's the advert

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-SEAT-...item2c6ba20db5

He seems genuine enough on the phone and the car checks out so far,
Im just a little nervous,

I'd be wary myself tbh but it doesn't look like he buys crash damaged and sells them on as he only has this and a mg for sale

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/mlee8564/m...p2047675.l2562

and his completed listings only show the MG never sold so dont think hes trading cars on the side. Ask him, never know could be an honest guy!

Lovely looking car though!

It has made me think twice about it, I have messaged him and asked if he has
painted any panels.

He has just told me he hasn't touched it at all.

The bodywork business is his own.

You could always take a paint thickness tool (don't know proper name ) Just go around the car measuring how thick the paint is, if its had paint, you'll be able to tell!

ETA Scrap that idea i thought the tool was cheap to buy! Unless you already have one or know a detailer well enough to borrow one!
