Default pars for a ten year old car obsolete already !!

Got a MK3 mondeo in for a clutch fault at work, found master cylinder faulty stripped it down and broke the pipe/clip on the pressure side side of the master cylinder ( small plastic clip that sits over pipe) ordered part from a local ford dealer but comes as a part of the main pipe to the slave cylinder went today to collect it turns out it looks like its now a obsolete part unless ford technical says otherwise !!!

not so much obsolete, more superseded.
this is common, especially on fiestas etc as they keep upgrading the calm units

They are only obliged to supply parts for 10 years or so anyway. and often they try and get away with less.

eg with the FRP when it came the 10th aniversary most of the owners groups eagerly awaited the parts being disposed of and sure enough straight to the clearance centre they went at cheapish prices.

Crazy really, seeing as cars are built better and much more resistant to corrosion they are on the road for more years.

Always been the Ford way, after 10 years they do not stock the parts at the dealers anymore, they are only available on 'back order' in real terms this means try fordpartsuk.com the national clearance centre.....

I tried to get the water pipe on mine only to be told that the pipe didn't actually exist on my car

I had to show the guy what pipe was on my car and then, I think, both Ian southam and Ginge sorted out a replacement

But the replacement came in 2 parts, and I had to order both parts so when only one turned up they said "oh he's, there is another part that goes with it"

And if you think a brake pipe clip is hard to find, just wait till you try and get a clip for the undertray
You can't, you have to buy the complete undertray at something like Ł700 just to get one 50p clip

Madness

They don't want you to run old cars they want you to buy new ones

the car is the "ultimate consumer item" (and "disposable")

When I was dealing in Ford parts there was usually an alternative, often with no superceeded numbers, results often depend on if the parts man can be bothered, I know of lot of parts men who often tell people RS stuff is obsolete because they know it may cause them some work looking for bits.

Legally, they only have to supply parts for 7 years after production stops.

It's more to do with 1 rapid login per small dealer unless special reasons

I have my own as I order the vors for mine and other dealers but otherwise on front counter its wait for me to email I. A few hours that its no longer services or with cossie bits referred

Doji, warldorf and statler on our front counter are typical old school parts man,,,,,, know part numbers for mk3 cortinas but couldn't find a heater resistor for a focus, they don't even know how to read email lol

Always just ring my desk and let me find the wrong parts for you

Btw if the part has not been ordered for 1 year after 5 years production finish then they just sell down till its taking up space( another year of no movement ) and now sent to clearance centre,,,,, 2 years ago it was landfill !!!!

i have noticed that slim is always bang on the money as he seems to know how to use a computer, while they require reg numbers

i've known stu for about 20 years from back in the days when he was over at ealing parts department and he was spot on when looking at the microfish

he's got the hang of things, sometimes he just needs a little nudge in the right direction

don't get many folks going in there asking for parts for older cars though, but seeing as you are here, can you get a rear number plate light holder for my mk4.5 fiesta please

some twat reversed into it while i was parked up and has broken it so now it's hanging out

It's going to get worse for Mk3 TDCis as Delphi no longer make/stock the injectors - there will get to a point where there simply aren't any more left, and the once they fail (which they will) the cars will be scrap!

that's shocking though, surely someone else will make replacements, if they fail so often there is a market for them
