Now this has had a full nut & bolt restoration

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCOR...90457986843%26

To be fair, the car is MINT throughout, but the seller claims its only done 10 miles since resto. Fair enough, but no where in the listing mentions the original mileage. Scroll through his photobucket photos finds

Mileage reads 00000

Fair enough its been restored over 5 years, had a complete engine rebuild etc etc, but its not a brand new car, so technically isn't it a bit wrong to treat it like one just cause you have restored it and wouldn't it be classed as clocking?

If its new clocks then fair enough, but at least state what the original mileage was, but if its been rolled back then its just wrong imo!

Stunning car though!

Nice car, but it's not new, it has been around for 25 odd years, Mileage is all recorded on every mot now so is going to flag as an issue on hpi. Daft thing to do imo.

Yest because you restore a car, doesnt make it a brand new car just as new condition.

Plus a big part of an S1 is the history and originality of the car, trying to wipe the slate clean does more harm than good. Especially if ID is no longer on the car, the history/paperwork etc is even more vital.

have to agree with you their matt

half the battle with s1,s imo is getting a car with a comprehensive history.

its a bit strange but the way i look when it comes to older cars like this i tend to go on condition rather than the miles its done

Surely the seller must have a reason for this (although i don't know what it could be). Somebody prepared to carry out a nut and bolt resto on a car must be clued up enough to know that it's illegal to change a cars mileage.

If I was looking i'd want to know the milage etc as its just going to be a ballache everytime it goes for mot as the first thing a mot station will do is bang it up at for example

100010 miles or something like that depending how many miles its done as they won't take it that it has 00010 on the clock.

It's not illegal to alter the milage on a vehicle but the owner would be in trouble with trading standards if they tried to sell it without informing the new owner.

From the photos the restorer has not used the correct parts in his work on this car - The spotlights are wrong, the exhaust is not an S1 item and takes the wrong route by passing UNDER the rear suspension. Difficult to tell from the photos what else is wrong.

At the time of writing the current price is over any valuation that I would put on a restored S1 and I note that it has not reached the reserve yet.

Looks a nice car but is in my opinion by no means the best around - That honour currently goes to a very low mileage, full history, one owner from new, totally original example that I valued recently at a significantly higher figure.

Cheers, John

in my opinion i can see a mint unrestored, low owner, low milage car being worth that amount of money. Im busy restoring/building a S1 at the moment and have had to use a few pattern parts, but running gear, trim etc are all very good and the car will be a nice car finished, i would value mine at around Ł6.5k finished with lots of history etc. So even tho this car is stunning is it really worth double with no history??? Theres better cars on these pages

Its a minter, lovely example, no questioning that, but a lot of money for a C reg escort that probably nowdays would struggle to keep with any warm hatch (standard anyways)

Your right in what your saying that's it's a lot of money, but you can't really compare to modern day hot hatches as its not all about that is it? For example if that was the case how are mk1 and mk2 escorts worth so much? If you know where I'm coming from. Lol
