Default Another mondeo tdci thread

Iv got a 130 tdci 2002 with 84k miles on the clock.
I was driving up the road normally today when the power just dropped off.
Diesel knock flashing glow plug light.
I poodled back to work switched it off. I started it straight back up and the glow light still flashing. Touched throttle ad it still had a Heavy knock.
Left it 2 mins and started again. No light and engine sweet.
Went up the road and nothing.
Gave it a right tanning up and down hills, load and no load and its been fine since??

my dads got a 02 plate tdci mondeo and every now and the the heater plug light comes on and goes down on power, and to sort it he has to have the injectors recalibrated, happened 4 times now and costs money each time, the injection systems on these are utter shite

I use a company to do injectors at work. Is it worth taking mine out and sending them for a re furb?
How and why are they calibrated?
Cheers
