Default People who know about Manifolds + De-cats

Hi guys

I currently own a MK6 GTi and im not sure whether to buy a Focus ST or whether to just bung on a manifold from Burton Power, (ashley Hi Flow 2.25") and De cat it! I want more power from my 1.8 but not sure if i shoud sell it and just buy the focus, 225 BHP sounds crazy!!

So standard the GTI is 130 BHP but if i was to put the hi flow manifold and de-cat pipe on how much would anyone say i'd gain??

Current mods .. K&N Panel, adjustable shock and springs, Tarox Multi grooved discs + pads, brand new michelin tyres all round, large bore exhaust but with one box + tail pipe (as I dont wanna sound like a CHAV)

Got the handling read for more power but just dont know whether i'd be worth it and how much power i'd actually gain from the maifold and de-cat pipe?

Any input would be brilliant

you wont gain much power with the manifold or decat but it will make the engine more responsive.

a few years back i had a mk6 escort with 2.0l zetec fitted. to that i fitted a focus st170 4-2-1 manifold (need to cut a bit out of the fan plate to clear) purchsed brand new from ford for about £160 iirc!

then the decat was made with a flange and exhaust reducer to fit the rest of the system.
i then modded a set of suzuki gsxr 750cc throttle bodies to fit and had after market management, oh and a set of kent cams.

in the end it was about 180bhp. sounded the tits etc, but it was still a mk6 escort!

imo, buy the focus and stop fucking about with the escort lol

LMFAO good post nice one! I just thought i'd get more bhp and power as i've heard that other cars de-cated bring out more bhp. I guess it'll have a better sound if i was to go through with it ay?

it was the throttle bodies that made the noise.

to be fair, just the manifold and decat did make a difference to engine response, but i wouldnt really say it gave much more power.

and it failed the mot on emmissions lol

As above plus you can do all the mods you like but all it will actually do is have a negative response on car until you have it chipped and remapped but to be honest for the gains you'll see i'd get the st unless you go the ZT or ZVH route

Another way too look at it price of ST against price of ZT engine, management and set up which you can EASILY get 300bhp! Just remember anything over 300bhp in a front wheel drive car is useless as you cant put it down!

or get yourself st170 bottom end then get yourself forged pistons and rods, blacktop head, the thick focus rs headgasket,FRS manifold or ERST manifold with adaptor plate, chose a turbo then your away

A gti is 115 bhp.

Chuck some 2.0 cams in it.

As above GTi is 115bhp. Don't mess about with 2litre cams, without a 130 ECU and MAF you'll see sod all gain. Mind you even with those bits you'll only see marginaly more than sod all, 5bhp. My brother ran a GTi at 150bhp after adding a fair few bits. In the end we put a Focus ST170 engine in.

To be honest just buy the Focus, it's a better car with a big scope for tweeking

I have also been the zetec turbo route, all depends on what you want from it but it is a lot of messing about to get in etc and lots of money.

my engine stood me at around 10k! was 397bhp and 386lbft.

that was in a rwd sierra and was horrible to drive on the road.

save your money in the long run and buy the st, quick all round car out the box that can be used without issue every day.

i wish id done something like that!!
