There's got to be 3700 in parts there m8! The engine, 225bhp IIRC, there's 1500. Intercooler, wheels, kit, interior, cage, gearbox, all worth money.

either youre totally naive or this is a wind up thread, some of your comments i just dont get
If you dont know enough about fords to know that the first thing you should do is check the sills and floor you really should be buying a new car from a dealer.how come you need a car lifted up to check underneath ? dont you wear an old pair of jeans and take a torch with you and get down on the floor and have a good look under a car when youre shelling out near 4 grand on it ? no sympathy there really.
why not put some pics up cos it sounds to me like youre making it out to be far worse than it is. then people can give you good advice on what to do with it.

Lets all keep telling him he should of checked it more thoroughly or that he should of noticed the things wrong with it, that will really help matters and make him feel better.
My S1 goes in for MOT tomorrow and if it fails shall i post the failures on here so as you can have a pop at me also, tell you what i shall even post a picture of it so as the real clever ones out there can doctor it and make a joke out of it?

That is the most sensible thing you have said all day! Unless of course you were being sarcastic....in which case if you actually DIDNT raise a 19yr old car and have a good look/prob around underneath then you deserve all you get
So Lee are you saying anyone who doesent look over a car properly regardless of there mechanical ability deserves to get shafted?
does that mean that you also think that these poor old ladies who let bogus callers into there houses without properly checking there ID deserved to be beaten up and robbed?
You dont even know Jimrs (nor do i) so why say he DESERVED to be shafted?

the looked all underneath and said parts of it are fucked, most inprotantly.... the inner wings arecracked and weak, if that would of been in a collision that would all fold up and smack in2 the inside of car
not nice knowing that when my brother was driving it back!

I've just seen this thread and thought i best reply! (4 pages in one night - fook me!!!)
Anyway I owned this car back in May and kept it for a few months. I was the one who got it MOT'd (at a neutral reputable garage).
I purchased the car as well without taking a proper look under the car. The 'prettyness' and cleanliness got the better of me and thats what sold it!. I did look under the seals though and the usual places that i could see (bearing in mind the car was fookin low then) and found it ok. It had virtually no MOT left on it when I bought it, and I was aware that it had had a smack on the front/front corner, thus needing it repaired/sprayed etc. I was still happy with the car and parted with the money (allbeit it less than Jim paid! ).
I got it MOT'd and the tester failed it on the rear chassis rails being rotten to fook. I was gutted that I hadn't checked this when I bought it as i knew that these were prone to going on D platers (the car was soooo low i couldnt even get my arm under there!). But hey ho, I paid Ł150 to get them boxed in, took it back down for a re-test and it passed. I was even looking under the car with the tester and didnt notice any other rust/snot that was deemed unsafe. If there was any the tester wouldve failed it again.
As for the taking further action etc, unfortunately you wont have a leg to stand on. Its just one of those things that you have to live and learn. As Rich W etc says it can onlybe a matter of weeks before rust settles in so 8 months it could get real bad, especially with the salt and shite on our roads. As for the cracked inner wings, the suspension was real low remember and all it may have took is one of the former owners (after me, or me perhaps without me realising) to hit a large bumper in the road and BANG - crack!
If it were me get it repaired, you know damn well the thing is mint on the outside and under the bonnet. Ł1500 seems a little steep for the cost of repairs. It sounds like a day or two's work only so i'd say Ł500 tops.
Good luck fella
Chris

and as for the AA checks, they're worth fook all, mate of mine had one of them done on his car, had it a week, then the head gasket went and there was shit wiring everywhere. on the report it got top marks, when my mate went to the AA regarding the check being shit, they said read the notes at the bottom of the sheet. it said something about it not being taken as gospel, that they dont take responsibility for any comeback on the car itself.
your only option is to get it fixed off of your own back Jim, you won't be able to get anywhere in courts or with speaking to the previous owner, unless the previous owner will give you some of your cash back as a good will gesture. which he doesn't 'have to do'.

I've bought a car on impulse before and it cost me a fair few ŁŁŁ to put right, I still have that car now
Go sort it and be done with it

I think the first garage may have been a little "too" picky to be honest, especially after what Chris has said....
Just lob it in at another MOT station - one that just does MOT's and nothing else...
