Means been in an accident and insurance has written it off because of the financial cost. Cat C cars can be legally repaired and put back on the road (after a VOSA inspection I believe).

Cat a ,, distruction order against it ( CAN NOT BE SOLD COMPLETE )
Cat B ,, Heavy damage ( can be broke for parts )
Cat c , Heavy damage ( can be repaired but not worth it )
Cat d, Minor damage ( easy repair but insurer decided not to go ahead ) various reasons why they didnt bother .
Cat d , Nothing to worry about ( as long as its cheap )
Cat c, Look very close that its been repaired to a good standard
Cat a,/ b walk away
