Default Tyre size/profile question

Looking to get a set of winter tyres for my van.

At the moment the tyres are 205/65/16's..........normal tyres.

But someone local to me is selling a set of winter tyres but the are 205/60/16's........

Is there going to be any effects going from a 65 profile to a 60?????

Yeah your gonna lose a little height from the tyer meaning:
a)slightly stiffer, not that youd notice that TBH
b) your speedo is going to read a little bit out as the tyer is smaller in size, so i think it might read faster than you actually are.

I think you'd notice very little difference going from a 65 to a 60. Make sure they are proper van tyres though, could invalidate your insurance if they aren't!

1.6% Error. Speedo will read 1.6mph fast at 100mph.

your speedo will actually be reading 3% higher than the actual speed
@60 mph you will be doing 58.2mph
have a look here its one of the best tyre related sites i found so far

I have a set of winter tyres for my toy as my BMW becomes a garden ornament in bad snow! I will go from 45 to 60 profile! I know this means a bit less clearance in the arches etc but every thing else seems ok! and the grip and traction of proper winter tyres is what I need. I won't be doing anything exiting as its just to take my little one to school and back a few miles in the morning combined with the odd trip to tesco! I don't intend using them for anything major but I think it will be a lot safer than sliding all over the place in the BMW.

Best thing i got for my van!!! Profile change from a 65 to a 60 shouldnt make too much difference

Mine were 195/65/16 and opted for the larger 215/65/16

Van actually feels nicer on the bigger tyres

5% difference in a aspect ratio will make no noticible difference between a 65 and a 60.

However, changing tyre make, compound and tread pattern will make a massive distance comparatively... IMO of course
