Thats more or less the only benefit as well that I can see. I remember seeing a few old escort cabbies with pas and I think they were auto as well.

Just bung 60psi in the tyres so it feels like it has

there were some mkV's that ran power steering with the same cvh lump, but finding them may be a pain in the rs
but other than swapping everything over, i can't see that it would be a problem as long as you can bolt everything into your block

ive heard that it ruins the car, as the feedback is OTT, so the steering wheel is constantly being grabbed out of your hands.

just word of mouth tho...

what you lose in feedback, you gain in not having the wheel wrenched out of your hands

go and have a test drive of a car with fwd and power steering (a mk3 cavalier is good for this sort of thing) and see what lots of torque and crappy handling feels like
at least you can judge if it's the right mod to do or not (not that i'm saying the escort has crappy handling, just that the cav's do and as soon as you put your foot down the steering wheel get light as a feather as the hweels spin away all the power)

I run 215 tyres on my S1. I honestly feel that if it had PAS I could throw it around easier. At the moment I end up running out of revs mid bend and find I have to wrestle the wheel with one arm and change gear with the other.....
