WARNING:::: LOW OIL PRESURE over 4krpm... !!!!!
Hi Guys..
Just started getting the oil press light flicker on when the engine has got to running temp and goes over about 4krpm...
I can achieve boost and plenty of load BELOW 4000 without anything, but as soon as I go over, it starts flickering... !!!
God knows how much damage could have occured already, but can anyone help trace the fault... !?!?!?!
I thought it might be the pressure relief spring in the Burton high-press pump (2yrs old) or even the whole thing..??
What do you think..????
Luv
Chrisie....

obviously you have checked you have enough oil, so if the oil hasn't been changed recently and you are running increased boost could be oil contamination with petrol.
Normally the light will come on at tick over and go out when revved so if it comes on when revved could well be oil pump related, like lack of oil as it is getting pumped round the motor so none to pick up.
If your bearings aren't already shot they will be if you keep driving

your best bet is to speak too stu the tuner or any decent tuner that come on this site. to me it sounds thtat you could possabley have a oil pump problem or maybe a compression problem maybe piston rings but thenagain i ain't a engine builder am i. plus really you ain't going to get any good advise at this time of day

start simple, change the oil filter and oil first i've used the shorter filter b4 and found it didnt last too long, cant remember what brand it was but it lasted maybe 8 months. it appeared to be blocked or clogged or something and caused the above symptoms. filter change cured it
low oil level will show when braking or cornering on a pressure gauge and it'll drop off very quickly, that isnt engine speed dependant.
a fooked oil pump (ie worn) will often have low pressure at lower engine speedsw.
Like I said start simple start with a oil and filter change.

Chrissie, stop driving the car NOW and get it checked out! I know what bad luck you have with engines in the past so I would advise you park it up for now...
It could be a blocked pick up pipe, fooked pick up pipe gasket (drawing in air and losing it's 'suck') dodgy oil pump or simply a dodgy pressure switch but I would advise you get an oil pressure guage (proper workshop one not a toy effort) on it and see what happens.....

just had pickup gasket failure on a motor, and took ages for the oil light to go out on cranking and only gave 20psi when running, but once motor had started the light didn't come on again.
Certainly get it checked or could be expensive

Bet the strainer is blocked as said , might be the end if u go out diagnosing much more , if u put a manual press guage in it might give an indication , ie if its to low to start with .

Thanks for all the advise guys...
The light is only coming on at high rpm.. not once at tickover
If it's relevent (petrol in oil comment), I also think the stem seals have gone, as she's burning a bit of oil and occacionally blowing the oil filler cap off (but it isn't particularly tight, so doesn't take alot..) Could be rings, but there's no noticable smoke, just a burnin oil smell...
Could it be a problem with the breather set-up..???
It had an oil and filter change just 5-6 weeks ago, but of course that doesn't rule it out..
It won't be Silicon in the pickup as my 1st lump went cuz of that, so this build hasn't got a drop of the stuff anywhere...
Pickup gasket tho... !?!? Only requires dropping the sump, so gotta be worth a check...
To be honest, this is the excuse I needed to get rid (presuming it lasts long enuf to px.. As much as she was my beloved baby, it's not been the same since it got broken into... and I hate to say it, but Scoobies are quite affordable now... !! but keep the help coming...
