Let me know if you find someone that can do a 3˝" or 3ź" system, as I have yet to find anyone that can do these sizes .
The best off the shelf one is a good old Mongoose . Good enough for anything up to just over 500bhp , and more if you don't mind a bit of back pressure...

Also check out the bends on a longlife sys, or "squashes" which would be a more accurate name for em.
And throw a bit of water on their "stainless" steel n watch patches of it go brown with rust...

You will see little benefit from an exhaust bore larger than the exhaust turbine housing outlet size.
The main restrictions in any exhaust system are the bends and the silencers.
The bends cause the fast moving gas to bend which causes extra turbulence
and the silencers obviously restrict as they slow the gas down to reduce
the noise output.
I have seen 630 +bhp (ENGINE DYNO) on a escort cos YB engine with a 3 inch standard
mongoose system fitted in situ. while being mapped.

The difference it made to SeanBs old RS500 engine in his Escort was quite significant too when went from 3" to 4", the amount of extra fuel that had to be mapped in to compensate...
Deffo agree its silencers and bends that do bad as much as overall bore.
0psi backressure is what you want post turbo, itd be good to plumb a gauge into the downpipe to test what people get, on a 500bhp engine on a cossie i bet a 3" sys has a lot.
Capable of flowing 600+ still, but its a restriction long before that it seems, and for the sake of fitting a bigger exhaust, its crazy not to liberate the extra power thats hiding...

i was thinking 18%, but even if it was only 10%, thats fuckloads!
and it was the amount that had to be removed once the 3" was put back on too, so it deffo was the exhaust and not just the mapping
big exhaust, zero backpressure post turbo, is the way.
no drawbacks, less heat, more power, potentially faster spooling of the turbo too.
im going 4" side exit, possibly not even a silencer, depending how brave i feel

On a Cossie the side exit wouldnt be on pavement side as ideally it should be on turbo side.
On a GTR the turbo is on pavement side, but i dont give a fuck, im having a side exit
My GTT had a side exit on pavement side too.
Infact it prob makes pigs less likely to pull you as they behind you n spot a big tailpipe that always equals a blue light n a producer from them cooonts

I think mines a mongoose! It was the biggest one you could fit at the time with an oval end! 4.5 inch (no cat!!... i didn't say that!)
My old saff cossie had a 5 inch hand built stainless job, but it needed it!!!
And it had zero ground clearance, rubbed on the prop shaft whenever you looked at bends or speed bumps, 90% of it was scratched within a month and then i unrolled the tail pipe getting on a ferry!!!!
So i wouldn't recommend that!

What, your telling me your entire sytem on your escort is 4.5inch, and on the saff was 5 inch? FPMSL
Lay off the crack mate
I think your on about the TAILPIPE, the system wont be bigger than 3", same as the others.

I know the standard system vibrates like fek on something when its on!!
Get a right gyration through the floor plan! Only in left hand bends though!!
The saff used to be right hand bends? I thought the belly pan layouts were the same!

According to some of the experts, exhausts aren't quite a simple as you think and are a bit of a black art. Sean had that monster exhaust made to make the car quiet for trackdays.... it didn't work!!!! it did gain a bit of power though BUT its primaryt task was making the car quiet and so it was a failure!
I Had my exhaust done to make it quiet and once the screamer pipe is sorted properly next week it will be The actual exhaust is very very quiet AND the car does seem to go alot better as a bonus. Karl is going to remap it and so we will see what he thinks as well
Custom Hayward and Scott job. I'm really happy with it so far and will be 100% happy when the screamer is silenced some more
The way it goes into a 4' is supposed to help Turbo spool up??? don't know about that but it looks cool

Right ive just got back from long life he said he can defo get the pipe work 3 1/2 or 3 1/4 hes saying have the down pipe 3 1/4 past the prop then go toa 3 1/2 system all the way back its all bends not welds aswell mandaral bends???i think he said.Im waiting on the price back What would u suggest a 3 1/4 full system or the 3 1/4 in to a 3 1//2 he recons the half would be cheaper as the pipe is cheaper where as 3 1/4 is rarer
#38
So 3 1/2 all the way back from the down pipe or u mean all the way back he really doesent want to do 3 1/2 all the way he thinks itl rub like crasy but i might make him do it lol.Is the 3 1/4 in to 3 1/2 stupid??

Just that IF he CAN do the whole system in 3.5" tube, then it would be better IMO......
BUT if the ARB/small prop clearance wont allow that, then I guess the 3.25" downpipe with 3.5" for rest of the system is the only solution
Depending on price, I may get mine done at Long Life too.......did hear "one or two" stories about them though - so not sure
