A dozen yeas ago it was a good magazine with no kits or tits and was an interesting read.

now its just a crap porn mag ruined by bodykitted saxos, id sooner just download some decent porn instead of reading it.

I read it from the 3rd issue onwards for the next 4 years or so, then it turned shite...
Often saw the RS Kicker car driving around peterborough, and the yellow Carlton was often spotted in Oundle where the editor lived i think

Up until about....

A year ago? i religiously bought it (and fast car, and revs, and redline ) every month.

Then, i dunno.. jus sorta realised that they were shit, redline is acceptable, revs is alright, fast car and max power are shite.

Buy Performance Ford, Fast Ford and occasionally* classic ford, when i see a good cover car.

I used to be a Max Power reader, like chip says, back when it was a proper car mag!

The one car I remember seeing featured was a green MkI Escort shell dropped onto a 4x4 saph floorpan, awsome car!

And I used to love that yellow Carlton

Still got a couple of Max Power vids somewhere I think, Beasts from the East and the vid with the Carlton on the front

I started getting it when Project Kicker was up for grabs, was the reason I bought it as well. You had to guess where the car keys were, I didn't win it though.

Project Thunder was the yellow Carlton.

I stopped getting it about 6 years ago, just went to shit.

Chip, I changed 2 wheels on my car at the last trackday and with Stus help changed and gapped the spark plugs on the Sierra....

You may laugh but for me thats REAL progress....

Nothing wrong with chequebook tuning anyway! Some people are just gifted in different areas of life, I am just not a talented mechanic, in fact I am downright dangerous with a spanner and a car!

So the only way I can enjoy cars is by paying other people to look after them.

Used to buy all of them until about 3 years ago. I saw it turn from a good car mag into a load of crap with kitted up shopping trolley's. Wouldn't use it to wipe my arse on now.

yea iv got the first ever issue as well, amazing how stuffs dated. Years ago used to be car enthusiasts, now its "cruisin" which is more of a separate thing really, i reckon more about the image than havin either a fast or well put together car.

Anyone remember the mint green 300bhp Astra from Courtenay? Was around 93-94 I think...loved that car, just looked so clean...unlike the bodykitted monstrosities that, due to MP, we now see unpainted on every high street

i've probably got the first 8 or 9 years worth of max power, loads of fast car and that sort of stuff in the garage, then i started to wonder what was the point in buying a mag with a bodykitted 1.1 nova on the cover
yeah sure, there are some nice motors in there, but they are buried under so much crap thats there's no point

i did think of selling them on ebay, but i don't think someones going to come round and pick up around 200 kgs worth of mags

revs was good in the beginning (went to loads of their fastest days at alconbury which was a good laugh (a certain green mondeo went a bit quicker than it looked too ) but right baout now, practical performance car is the best mag out there, where else will you find someone who is shoehorning a 27L engine into the bonnet of an SD1 and making his own fuel injection up for it
