Default Which Honda or yaris coil on plug works with the cosworth engine???

Going down the coil on plug route on my cosworth yb engine and although I know they fit and work there are so many options

So who has them fitted and running on there engine? Ideally with a photo to show if you milled the castles off the cam cover to fit them and what model and year car they came from with full part number

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Hi Mark, the ones that Julian uses on his engines don't have a built in igniter so would need additional parts and wiring to be done so im after the honda or yaris type with it all in one, i went to the breakers but found 2 or 3 different lengths all on different year yaris but there were no type r's so ideally want the correct part number to the type r coil or yaris which definitely fit or il have to go take measurements from the head plug hole depth and diameter etc before re visiting breakers

I think it was Martin Hadland that used them on a cossie as well but need to have a search and find out

Thanks

I had a read thanks Ian, not sure if the lengths will suit a cossie head though so need to measure a standard cossie plug lead then go breakers and measure a cop to check they are the same

Also some like the Yaris are 4 pins and the like of the Civic type-R are 3 pins on the connector

Heres a few pics of mine, it uses the toyota yarris coils, we did have to mill the rocker cover and drill and tap it though.

If you go down the yarris route, the hardest bit for me was finding the connectors, i ended up after trawling for hours with this place in the states. Very quick servive though, i recieved mine within a week-10 Days.

Yeah I am going to take a cossie lead but did not have 1 a the time so was stumped and didn't want to spend out incase I got it wrong so will go back with a lead Monday

Pacificzetecturbo - what length are yours from under the flat top to the plug end? Is there a part number on yours? And are they 3 or 4 pin versions?

Thanks

They are 4 pin mate, i can have a measure up for you if you want, i'll measure the depth i had to mill out as well for you once it was level. I'll also check the part numbers on them. They were for a 2006 on 1.0 Yarris.

The part number on the coil pack is 1AC08285
It is 11.3mm from under the round plastic part to the tip of the rubber sleeve that pushes over the plug. Once we milled the round raised section of the rocker cover level with the rest of it we went down a further 4mm. The measurement round is 47.5mm this is to allow for the rubber that comes with it you can turn over and it seals in the hole. Hope that helps.

Matt Baxter - I found the same coils as you in the end, so going to use them,

I see you milled your castle off the cam cover to get them to sit at the correct height but did you mill them flush or recess the hole at all?
Do you have a photo of the cam cover with cop's removed?

Many thanks
Marc

The best Denso COP's to use are 90919-02230 off an IS200 as you wont need to machine the castles off as they quite long.
But you could just use an M4 Stand off to increase the height of the spark plug itself.

Also no need to drill and tap the cam cover as the cam cover bolt holes line up perfectly with the hole in the COP here is a 90919-02230 rested on my Cam Cover the orientation of the plug is perfect too facing backwards towards the bulkhead.
You'll just need a small bit of M8 Alloy tube to go under the bolt hole so it doesn't pull it down on the piss when you tighten the bolt up.

90919-02230 are only £29.75 each brand new off of eBay:

For my personnel build I prefer the castles machined off so the coil on plugs are as low as they can be purely because it looks nicer and my whole build is based on how things look as well as perform, also I don't really like the idea of extending the plug as you have added a potential failure point to the plug that is not necessary, I'm not saying it doesn't work I just think it's a bad solution to an unnecessary problem,

Good choice of cop, very tidy that way it lines up with the cam cover bolt holes, although from what I have read its best to avoid any pattern parts and stick to genuine Denso items

Thanks for the info on the thread though as this is all good info for people looking to go down this route

Thanks
Marc

Is that a little tight when you fill the oil on it?
I suppose unplugging the packs no real hardship.

How are these driven? By modding the ign amp or just new management?
Mines a 1990 4x4 so I think l6(????).
I fancy these as their more reliable.

An M4 stand off is hardly a failure point it's a solid threaded piece of brass there isn't anything to fail.
You can get genuine Denso COP in the afore mentioned part number for £33.99 delivered.

so as i read it, you didnt need the standoffs with the lexus COP's as they were longer to start with??

I havent filled it up with oil yet lol, i suppose looking at the picture it looks tight, i gues yea unplug that coil would be the answer.

I'm running Vi-pec which has the coil drivers built in to the ECU.

You don't need to that's only if you're going to use the shorter Yaris Coils.

such coils can they be quite simply wired in with a power supply and a trigger feed in a wasted spark configuration through pin 25 and 26 like on conventional coil pack??

obviously ignition timing might need slightly adjusting id guess?

can these be fitted to a big turbo escort cosworth and be run off the standard P8 ECU with wasted spark (coilpack) option by MSD.
If so does anyone have a wiring diagram to do it. thanks.

Hi folks. Sorry to dig this up again but i just need a bit of clarification as im going down this route myself.

The cover i have has been milled so the castles are flush. Am i right in thinking that the Yaris coils need a standoff whereas the 90919-02230 Lexus coils do not?

In the process of (slowly) building a YB to hopefully put in a MKII Escort at some point so im sure i will be asking plenty of questions?.
