Anyone got pictures of security devices they have made. I want to make up a remove able post but one which is stronger than the rubbish the shops sell. Also i want the bit left to be tyre friendly when turning into the driveway

Also I need ideas on how to secure my double gates. Was thinking along the lines of a bar whic threads through a metal bracket on each gate then padlock on the end of the bar so can't slide out again.

Any input or pics would be great cheers Ben

Perhaps you shoud go to the correct shops, you would need a Tank on steriods to knock my posts down . You get what you pay for .

I looked into the post idea but what with the amount of burglaries and threats that seem to be occurring now, I decided against the idea. If someone is going to burgle your house for your car keys, they will try and find your post keys as well and God forbid you are in the situation where they actually threaten you for your keys, they will threaten you for the keys to the post as well hence my keys are in a secure area and my car gets blocked in with another car.

Securing the gates sounds like a better idea than a removable post.

Pani k- i know what you mean but I've never heard of that sort of violence in my area of Kent. Really I want the post to stop people reversing and parking on my drive area and the gate lock to mainly stop the gates from blowing in the wind and the wind smashing the boards where the stupid little bolt is which come with the gates and also any extra security is a good thing

Sounds fair enough mate, don't want to intentionally be a scaremonger and nothing like the above has ever happened or been heard of in my area either but with the amount of scum that seems to be spreading these days you just can't have anything nice no more

Glenn can u imagine them not noticing its chained up and trying to pull the pole out of the ground while the cars in reverse

I'll take a look at them bulldog ones. The car is worth less than half of my daily and I leave that anywhere! Cheers

just 2 big steel framed gates here, plus imobiliser, alarm, disklock and normally another car parked on the other side of the gates. I would put post in as well but I don't like it being a pain in the arse to get the car out.

I just have proper electric gates would take to long pull down

Problem with that gate is that someone could potentially jump over that, lift the lower bolts and, pushing hard, should be able to pop that upper bolt out of its location quite easily. I would have bigger latch on that if it were mine instead of the cross-bolt.

Unless those links on the chain were welded together, yes it would be very easy to get the chain off.

Also with the usual bolts on gates u can unscrew the keep bit in seconds and your in as the screws are vid able or others have said push gates. But can't find anything for sale which would brace both gates so need something made up.

I have cut through thick D locks with bolt cutters, Believe me, even the thick motorcycle chains can be cut with a big set of bolt cutters

Cheers dojj but I meant the middle bolt on the centre of the gates.

On your idea you can either burr over the end of the bolt or put a spot if weld on like u have done to stop them but as mine are wood I don't have same hinges which aren't a problem. Cheers

Any other ideas like this. Found some hasp and staples as well but the keep was only small so would need a bigger one welded up

the weld is all good but they were on about it being lifted off it's lugs and off in a hurry which is why i posted the picture of the complete hinge/swing thing to show that the lug has a hole drilled through it with a bolt with the snap off nut on it to prevent this from happening

Err, Dojj, we were on about the slide bolt in the middle of the gate. Any good gate should have the hinges set so that they are opposite facing so the gate can't be lifted in the 1st place.

you won't lift them gates mate, especially when they are shut as the lock locks them both together

but anyway, the gates at this house are opposites top and bottom so no jack sparrow jail breaking going on there
