Default whats the best way to map a engine

Hi been looking at having my engine mapped but dont know whats the best way. Is it to have it put on a engine dyno and done that way or for it to be live mapped in the car? Ime looking to get the most out of the engine and dont want it blowing up

Are you looking at doing the mapping yourself of having it done by a reputable tuning company?

When mapping cars, there are benefits and disadvantages to both using a dyno and mapping on the road. For example, on a dyno, they are running in near-perfect conditions and they are very hard to replicate on the road.

There are several tuning companies who are recommended for mapping, and until my company have all of the relevant mapping software, I'd recommend Sabre Custom Tuning. They are located in Bristol, and have had some very good results from the Mk1 Focus RS, along with many different cars.

You can check out their website here: CLICKY. If you ask to speak to either Paul or Leighton. They're top guys and Paul gave me lots of advice when looking at having my car mapped.

Cheers

Josh

The best way is a bench dyno, then instal in car and further mapping work!

The best way is how the manufacturers do it.

Bench dyno initially, then into the car, in a climactic chamber, and all over the world in different climates etc.

But unless you have half a million quid spare, I'd stop worrying about "best" and worry more about "adequete" lol

Thanks for the answers. What would be the more adequate way chip?
Was either looking at a engine dyno at scs or a live map at grove garage.

My personal preference is either dyno or rolling road it in the car (doesnt matter much which), and then finish it off on the road.

I dont think you can map a car properly without actually driving it in the real world.

What advantage is there over doing it on a rolling road to the real road?

If its mapped on a tooling road it will need checking on the road!

So if it will need checking on the road what's the point in rolling road? the ecu already has a map on it for a zetec turbo. Its just that the head, both manifolds, turbo and injectors have been changed so would the cold start side of it be the same or will the whole map need rewriting?

i'd personally phone a reputable tuner who has done loads of good work on whatever engine/ecu combo it is, tell them you want it mapped and let them deal with it in whatever method they use. picking your tuner will be more important than how they do the mapping imo.

as long as the end product is making the most of your spec and its safe, who cares where or how it is done.

Its mainly a choice between either a engine dyno at scs or live mapped at grove garage. Both company's will say there way is the best but unsure what one will be better or would it be better to have the engine dynoed then setup i n the car after?

Dyno = good for finding peak power
Road = good for checking its safe in the real world and for setting up transient fuelling etc

ive used both if you want to push the engine a little then i would say dyno , but you cant beat real driving conditions and when my car (now yours lol )was live mapped at grove it was like a beast when i drove it home and i can honestly say ive never drove a smoother car than mine

cheers paul

The best way is taking it to a reputable tuner and letting them worry about it.

If you dont trust how they do it...then go elsewhere ( but then if you didnt trust them, they cant be that reputable )

I trust both places i have listed. Think it will be best to ring them both up and have a chat with them and see what they think would be best for what i want from the car.

Engines all done just waiting on oil pump. Once i have that then i can either have the engine dynoed or put it in the car and have it live mapped
