Default rubbish reception

for the 5 years i've owned my FRS the radio reception has always been pants. i've never been able to get to the bottom of it.

unusual thing is if you switch the key on (dont start engine) and the radio powers up the reception is great, can pick up weak signals etc. its only when the engine is running the reception goes to s*!t. i have noticed that after a journey, as i pull onto the drive turn they key off to poisition one the radio stays bad then after 5-10 seconds the recpetion comes back, perhaps after the alternator has finished discharging?

where do i start? many thanks

I thought the alternator was only if there was a whiring noise whilst the radio was on....but I'm probably wrong.

As above, try taking out the interior light, pretty sure there's an earth strap connected up there too which needs a good clean connection.

Are all the effected cars still running oem radio's or have they been replaced with aftermarket units?

Agreed lol!! Odd as my transit connect is based on a focus and has an almost identical stereo and the reception's more than acceptable in that....just the focus that struggles to pick up anything unless you're in the middle of town, is a bit annoying tbh

My Focus Tdci does this, keeps trying to retune itself on certain stations.

I checked the wire in the interior light and there's a White cotton briaded cable with a female spade on and it's NOT connected to anything!
