Default My new daily...........

Well its a new 62 plate MAN TGX with only 300km on the clock,
Will have a fair few more than that by the end of next week.

Whilst these aren't the best units on the market they do drive really nicely.
Its not a bad spec either, I don't normally like auto trucks but this one is pretty responsive.
There isn't much of a delay with the throttle as there was with the earlier ones.

My son was well excited about getting in it.

Its not bad Mat, There is loads of space and storage in these units,

Looking forward to getting the mileage up on it for sure.

Climate control
air con
full electrics pack
radio controls and cruise control on the steering wheel
A decent bed in it as well

Its a joy to drive

If that's what you want to do then go for it,
Its not as hard as it seems.

+1.

Did my class 2 with Roadtrain when they were at South Mimms and they were spot on.

Got my class 1 aswell, had it over 2 years now but never driven an artic only recovered them with a wrecker! Doing some agency work but its slack on the rigid work at the moment so going to have to bite the bullet and get behind the wheel of an artic or two, any pointers

I did my 2 and 1 with roadtrain over 6 years ago now, They were at south mimms then.
Who was your instructor? I was with John.

The training is spot on. 6 students the week I was there and only one failed. All the rest of us passed 1st time.

If you passed 2 years ago and not driven class one since passing Id advise you to get back in touch with road train and ask them to take you out for one day just to refresh with an instructor.
Or if you feel confident enough just go for it with the agency.

KregRs good luck with it, Aslong as you stay calm and think before doing or moving you will be fine, Its no harder than a car test imo!

Yes Glenn, You would be surprised by how easy they are to drive.
I found it far easier to drive the artics than the rigid trucks.

I used to be so impressed watching our drivers shunting round our tight yard, Then
I passed my test and realised that what they did was never anything special.

A lot of truck drivers make out its hard as they like to impress people with 'their skill' but its not hard at all. Blind side reverse is tough and something I feel no driver ever gets to like but I say go easy and take a look if in doubt.

If it was hard to drive, you wouldn't be able to learn and pass the test in 4 days.

Well I know where I'll be taking it tomorrow, I have 2 short runs.
1st run is to Earls Court, Unload and return to base
Swap trailers and then off to Excel so I'll only be putting a few miles on it.
Bring on the long hauls up north!

These are far better than the DAF autos!
Low speed manoeuvres are easier in the man and don't jump or delay.

I really like the Volvo FH 12 autos.

The FH12 is an awsome piece of kit, They sound great aswell.

I used to swear by Manual gearbox but I am now really getting into the groove of the auto's. The only gripe I have is related to the type of work we do which often takes us off road and into wet fields. That's where Auto's become completely shite and Manuals win hands down so time will tell how this truck fairs with our line of work

You can bang it in manual mode and put the diff locks in for that though.

Merc Actros autos are probably the worst I've driven. Huge delay between peddle and the truck moving. Horrible for roundabouts and lights.

Still doesn't help much Carlos, When going off road there is no substitute for a manual box
imo

I sometimes do a few loads of sugarbeet and the auto is useless if you get stuck in the feild as you say, also on dock work if a trailer has been dropped to low you keep reving it to get under then all of a sudden bang! your under it.
