mtx 75 and a 4x4 transfer box is it good??
Hi, I know this might be a dumb question, but when looking at pics and exploded views of the MTX75 coupled with a transfer box like the mondeo 4x4 and escort rs2000 4x4 ect.... I couldn't help but notice something odd!
The gearbox is an mtx 75 so it has to outputs (for passenger and driver side shafts) now the transfer box is fitted in the drivers side instead of the shaft then the shaft goes in the other side of the transfer box and another shaft from the transfer box to the rear diff. Is so far correct????
Now by common sense this gives 50% of the power to 1 wheel (pass side front) and the other 50% split between the other 3???? This means it s not proper 4x4 and from what i could find the transfer box is mechanical so the power cannot be electronically distributed to all 4 wheels like in audi's and evo's.
Any help would be appreciated

thats not how it works
The front diff unit is NOT like a normal FWD diff.
the gearbox drives ring gear that drives the transfer box.
The torque split takes place in the transfer box. It then sends the power either to the rear prop or back into the gearbox housing and into the front diff and hence the driveshafts.
Its a mass of rotating parts close to each other hence why they can be fragile if not looked after and why on that crap zoom pic it looks like a normal front diff.

Im not sure if the gear box casing is the same. However id imagine you can probably put any MTX75 gearset in any gear casing. CTS will know as theyve done some work with the guy who turbod his Rs20004x4.
The jaguar system is a completely different design albeit based on the same idea of a FWD gearbox and transfer box assembly.
To make it work you would need the lot from a jag x type. should fit ok as its a mondeo floorpan and many shared componants. Id imagine it is both stronger, cheaper and more plentiful too.

BTW i was thinking use gearbox and transfer box from a jag what else would you need drom it?
