I had a rebuild in from a customer and when i took it apart it had done exactly the same thing.

do you remember how much a new pot/cage was by any chance?
probably close to the price of a complete new diff

No it was quite reasonable IMO I can't quote a price because I have dealt with them a few times previously.
Nice company to deal with though.
