Default Cat D Celica, shall I buy it?

Need a bit of help on this one!!

This guy is selling a Cat D celica 1.8 vvti 140. It has been repaired so all good. No history at all but he says the miles are genuine at 76k. He said it pulls to the left and that it needs a new shock.......I am thinking whatever happened to that car to make it a Cat D has not been repaired properly thus the pulling to the left?

Also.....anyone know what these Gen 7 Celicas are like as in MPG, speed, handling as they look pretty smart.

How cheap is it? Would need to be sub 1k to be worth even bothering with IMO.

i wouldn't give any more than £800 for it and thats without seeing the car it would probably be less you can pick em up pretty cheap so a cat d and problems now worth the ball ache

as for the cars themselves there a mild sports coupe that can be out paced by most hot hatches, quite plastic but the handling is ok from what i remember its been a while

Engines aren't toyotas best either, seen quite a few in the scrappy with blown motors.
We repaired one before and the wheel had snapped off the front but it stood up well,no jigging as most of it bolts on and off, really easy to work on as well.
Their pretty lame in the performance department but as you sit low and they rev well they certainly give the impression of going fast,I didn't mind it.
The wheel went wonky on his after the repair and it turned out to be the hub, although I couldn't see why but a second hand one cured it right away, there's also a lot of adjustments on the suspension do it maybe just that.
I've never seen one under a grand so I think that's optimistic and check it is cat d not c as it really won't be worth anything if it is as generally the logbook is marked then.

Thank you for advise.

He wants £1,250. Its a 52 plate. 9 months MOT. Pictures are showing it looks clean.

So make sure it is a Cat D and not a C......Will call him a bit later today and find out.

How comes mate, are they really that bad? I have never even sat in one let alone drive one! The other car I have been offered is an Astra MK4 Coupe Turbo, but know nothing about these apart from they are meant to be the same performance wise as a Calibra Turbo??

No chance, you'll struggle to get the old twin headlight type for £600,rough,15 years old with 150000 miles on them, that's a grands worth of car all day long,it's only cat d which is nothing, you don't even need to tell the seller when you part with it and honestly who bothers to hpi a grands worth of car?not many,my text check.com at best.

Cheapest on autotrader is this one at £1550,so getting that at a grand or so would be a good buy.
The next cheapest is £1800.

all IMO of course

that car you've linked to isnt cat D, it has a years ticket and 6 months tax.

The Ceilca the OP is thinking about buying has no tax, pulls to the left, needs a shocker and possibly more items if its pulling to the left.

people over value cat d cars all the times, including the seller of this one in questions, its isnt worth nowhere near £1250 IMO

Bang on,I'm amazed how many people confuse a vic or VEHICLE IDENTITY CHECK with a full on inspection of the damage.
This being cat d it doesn't even need to go for that,it is recommended that you put it through a new mot but not law in anyway shape or form.
If its pulling it's almost certainly the suspension leg which is a really easy swap on these but should be accounted for in the price IMO.
I still can't see them as £600 cars but again each to their own and good luck if you can get them for that price, salvage seems more expensive than straight in some cases, particularly eBay and that Douglas valley breakers.
Wow can he overprice a car!!!

Thought i;d bump this to show what sort of money these go for (admittedly he mention about the clutch in the ad), this is a 2004, with 11 service stamps, not on the hit list & 1 previous keeper. I know what i;d prefer to buy!

So a rough example with a months mot, needs a clutch,no tax and a patchy at best description proves what exactly?
Have a zoom in on the front bumper,it's been hit and scratched all over, the bonnet doesn't line up properly either, pretty good chance that's been hit as well.clutch is a pig of a job,9 hrs in the book and I've done one in the flesh, not nice at all.
Looks like there's a dent by the drivers rear 1/4 as well and ask yourself this,if they haven't noticed any of those things I can see from a few crap eBay photos what else aren't they describing?the car still fetched £1250,clutch is £1-150 in parts at least £200 in labour, front bumper needs spraying, bonnet needs alignment so budget at least another £150-200 in the paint shop and the cars now at £17-1800 minimum.mot due soon so another £50-100 as cars always seem to need something and your up to pretty much £2000,or double what the other car was, sorry what it's worth.
Seen any for £600 yet?

Not trying to prove anything, just exampling what these go for in the real world. Just saying to the OP the one that he was thinking about buying is not worth £1250, simple as that

I agree it's not worth £1250 (the op's car)yet your idea of £600 is unrealistic also.
I'd say it's unlikely you'll even get one pre-damaged for that, but perhaps we'll agree to disagree on this one.

maybe cars are just cheaper round my way; i've just bought an 02 plate volvo t5 estate SE, 85k, 2 owners, 10m mot, 4m tax for £800, it needed a new throttle body which cost me £50
