As above really, what are your opinions?
Pro's/con's?
Any thoughts appreciated

Mk5 zetec-s's are good cars all in all, obviously not the fastest things ever but well built and handle well
I'm a big fan of the mk2 xr2's, they offer similar performance to the zetec-s but a much raw driving experience being carb'd, no abs etc
Getting expensive now though, and will be more of a hit with thieves

If you can find a decent, honest mk2 XR2 then that is the one to go for if you want something classic, but value for money the mk5 Zetec-S models take some beating. They handle nicely, go reasonably well too for a modern 1600 n/a and return decent MPG.
You'll get a better mk5 then you will an xr2 for less money put it that way, all depends on what you want, how long you plan to keep it, what you want to do to it/use it for etc...

Ive got a Mk5 ZS as a daily and its superb... Ł600 it cost me, 110k miles its now on and it hasnt put a foot wrong... 38-40mpg even if i give it a hard time, aircon, remote locking, power steering etc so its easy to live with and it puts a smile on my face if i take it for a back road blast!
