Default Turbocompounding?

What is that? is it somting to do witht that pic that Steve put up the other day with tubo turbos attached?


Just wondering as im on the Scania web site (for uni) and they are talking about it there sayign they were the first people to do it for a road engine lol

The traditional turbocharger makes use of part of the thermal energy in the exhaust gases. In the process, the temperature drops by around 100°C to around 600°C. The turbocompound unit is an additional exhaust turbine mounted in the exhaust pipe, downstream of the normal turbocharger. Its turbine, spinning at 50,000 r/min (at an engine speed of 1,800), extracts more residual energy from the exhaust gases, lowering the exhaust temperature at full power by another 100°C to below 500°C.

Isn't that a turbo feeding another turbo ? There was a post on this recently, I think mr Rainbird said something like "watch this space"....
