Default thinking about getting another car

Hi, I m about to scrap my cortina in a couple of months and am thinking about getting another car for everyday use

I need a diesel (due to the price of fuel) or something with 50+ mpg and something under 2500 Euro since i have to ship it to Malta and pay a load of damn taxes, also it has to have low emissions as we have the highest annual road tax in the world and it s based on emissions .....

if it s a small car it s a bonus and my first choice would be a ford

any suggestions????

If you are getting another car, could you not rescue the 'Tina?

Over here some cars have free road tax, due to low emissions, do you have anything similar? Otheterwise google zero road tax car uk, no doubt a load of stuff will come up. Even 1.8 Avensis diesels are free tax now.

I hate the fact it's based on emissions though, we don't use the money to directly compensate the environment, higher emission cars don't cause more damage to the roads than say a big, low emission car either!

unfortunatley it s too expensive to save my tina as it has a lot of rust and needs a brake and suspention overhaul.

we do not have anything free here not even battrey powered cars
