How does the coil wiring work on cossie loom? NOW BROKEN AGAIN!!!
Started this thread in addition to the problem I'm having on my other thread where my car broke down.
Anyway.....checked for spark tonight, nothing, and I've replaced the cps and checked the phase sensor and also bypassed the pump so it ran all the time, and it still won't start, obviously due to no spark.
So, checked at the coil and it seems to be getting a live with the ignition on, and then (I think) a switched earth or positive, can't remember right, when you crank it. Checked the king lead side and there's no output.
Not sure if A-it's getting the right input
Or B the coil is fubar

the coil has a ignition live, and is then switched through the ignition amp to give the spark as required. the ignition amp connects the coil negative to earth so it builds charge then when it is switched off by the ecu, it generates a spark in the coil. If you are getting the right pulsing off the ignition amp but the coil isnt responding then as long as its getting power, it would be safe to assume the coil is FUBAR.

Nobody local got a spare coil you can borrow?
Have you checked the resistance of the the primary and secondary windings? Or try connecting a live and brush the negative side to earth and see if you get a spark then. It's rare that ignition amps fail but possible, I would try swapping out the ecu next if someone has one you can borrow.
Also worth checking the chip is properly seated I suppose.

Thanks, i've had a "butchers" at that site a few times over the years, it's probably the best/simplest source of info there is on the weber system. However i am now focusing on the coil wiring and the ignition amp for today anyway.
To recap:
CPS is changed
Coil changed
Phase sensor checked (looks like new)
Rotor arm and cap checked
Coil is getting a voltage input of sorts, ignition live then I think a switched positive but no negative (from what I saw last night) need to confirm again.

Doesn't mean its working......

But you are right, given it'll take 5 mins to swap it's worthwhile doing to avoid lots of endless fault finding that could take a long time! i'm lucky that the bits I have changed so far haven't cost me anything so lets hope I can find the spare amp and it works! It was brand new in the box too I've had it for years!

good luck I am having some problems with my one not starting at the moment I think it is the immobiliser but could be wrong! i have traced the lack of power back from the fuel pump to the ignition relay and and am yet to find it! C'est la vie! It will just take more time!

Thanks I hope you get it fixed! I found this old thread but I cannot see a pic when i click on the link that someone has posted, anyone else have a clue?

Why lol,
nobody uses them anymore, insurance companys wont recognise them, if they are still in place and still work 99% have a seperate aftermarket unit fitted aswell.
And me saying "you can probe them out from the coil" isnt really giving much away, i could bypass pretty much any alarm or imobilliser on the planet fitted to a cosworth by doing the same.
Nomatter how fancy or expensive the actual alarm system is, with rolling codes, and thermo nuclear protection etc etc, the cars wiring is so simple they all simply connect via a cut wire
If any car theif doesnt know that they need to head back to Liverpool for a refresher course

Cheers I'll go read it now, sorry I did see your posts I was just wanting to eliminate all the other stuff first because I thought the alarm would be a big job to mess with, nothing personal I can assure you!!!
As for your mower, maybe you should buy a cow instead?
