Hi,

I have a 55 plate Focus Zetec 1.8 tdci, recently noticed black smoke coming from the exhaust under acceleration with a loss of power, swiftly followed by the engine management reporting a system fault.

The RAC came out and read the code as P2263 - Turbo Charge Boost System
They removed the EGR motor and found that the mechanical part of the EGR valve in the inlet manifold was stuck slightly open but could be operated manually. They also said the black smoke was unburnt fuel.

I took it to the garage and after they "diagnosed" it themselves they replaced an air mass meter. This has done nothing at all... charged £160 for that privilege, not happy!

Any ideas what I can do as I feel less inclined to go back to that garage, I'm not mechanically minded... Can follow instruction though!

Am I damaging it by driving it still? It has not put itself in limp mode...yet!

Any help... pleeeeaaaase?

blank off the egr valve.

 

Check the boost pipes that come off the inter cooler they have a tendency to burst

 

It had a split intercooler pipe last year, I replaced it and have checked again for splits... none found.
