Default FAO people with high bhp cars...

ok this is as the title suggests aimed at people with more than the average bolt on goodies!!

i was just wondering if you are all the same as me (you may laugh)

everytime i go out in my focus the radio is off and i love to get the wastegate open (like a big kid) but after every foot down moment i still leave the radio and find myself opening the window and listening prefusly at the engine to make sure it sounds ok lol
(even tho i have a stack dash with all the warnings set etc etc)

earlier today i PO0D myself when i pulled up at some lights and thought it was knocking... turns out it was a diesel pug that was behind me

is it just me thats like this or are all you big power blokes the same??

Don't know if it is just me that does this but have you ever been stopped at a set of lights or in traffic and there's a diesel or some clattery sounding heap of crap close by and you think to yourself "shit is that my engine?" So I give mine a little rev to see if it is and when it revs clean I'm like "ahh someone elses"

I had big power cossie paranoia and it was founded.... such is life.

I do wonder sometimes after a good beating if my focus will start and run next time round.

The only thing I can say is I had an ST170 with a supposedly bullet proof engine and I killed that so I will just get on with it and enjoy driving my car for me.

End of the day if you're not enjoying it then it doesn't matter how much horse power you've got because you'll never enjoy it - so what was the point.

I also like the sound of 2.5bar.... But I never worry about the engine... If it goes it goes tbh.

with the audi s2's 20vt's i've had i've never worried one bit about them, even the one's with 240k on the clock, I know they will always start and run fine one thing i've loved about them. Not many cars i've had that I can say that about.

I remember this feeling....

Panic at junctions. Panic on the motorway. Panic when you run over a pebble and it 'tings' off the sump. Panic. Panic. Panic.

I had this argument years ago when i got my integra type r and everyone was saying its shit and fords are better.

My argument was that i can absolutly kill it and i mean kill it without so much as worrying that the next time i put my foot down its going to end up in terminal failure and a bill for thousands. Thats what takes the fun out of cossie ownership and what makes other cars more fun to drive and own imo

sometimes it aint that simple though is it, i maintained me old saph regardless of cost, top quality oil every 2k miles regular services if it need anything it got it. Sold it and within a week it had melted 2 pistons. Sometimes taking care of something cant help against stuff like that

did it have a wideband on it though ? the supra didnt when i bought it so i didnt wot it once til id got one on and low and behold leaning off to 17 afr ! only 1 fuel pump was working, that would of ended exactly the same way with melted pistons had i not checked it.

everything needs to be monitored as much as possible.

i do find myself trying to listen to problems, it was a clattery van the other day behind the car behind me, i shit it thinking the pump had gone, same ending though with foot down and wastegate shouting at the road
just got a 413 pump today so will push on again

I've got a fully fucked about with mk5 fiesta that gets killed at every opportunity and all Ido is put more oil in it. Never worry about noises or temps. Shes a tropper.

On the flip side got a very mildly tunes fiesta Rs turbo. And I'm paranoid to fuck in it even though just done a ill nut and bolt resto lol.

I love the way this guy likes the sound of his wastegate . My engine sounds like a bucket of nails being shaken in a bathroom never ever heard the wastegate or the radio . Still hes got big Power to have overtaken that Pug diesel before the lights .

Not bothered in my Saab, cost less for the whole thing then some of your Turbos probably Do what I can to stop it exploding but there is no paranoia. Makes it so much more enjoyable to drive and not worry when playing with more expensive machinery

i dont worry bout my cossie at all, my engine has done bout 1500 miles now on new build an it is sweet. it has a good hammering every time i take it out an she loves it lol, when it goes ill just build another bigger an better. if it was my every day car im sure things would be different as you tend to worry a bit more bout it going wrong.

The question with a big power old car isnt "Am I being paranoid?" its more a question of "Am I being paranoid enough?"
