Default Porsche 928

Been fancying another classic for a while now, but I also fancy a nice rumbly V8!

These scratch both itches and a decent s2 can be had for sub 3k.

What's peoples thoughts / experiences with these old beasts?

I've been looking at the 4.7

Had a really clean s4 was a great old car brilliant handling well made,
Nothing else looks like a 928 they attract a lot of attention ( in a good way).

The vacuum system on these cars is complex buy one that is running right.

Mpg ok on long runs will get 22-25'mpg.

Manuals are rare to find unless you get a later model Gt but they are £7k plus and Gts model now creeping up to £20k.

A lot of car for the money, parts are seriously not cheap though second hand. Manuals are indeed a rare beast but the S2s look like a bit of bargain and pretty easy to convert to look an S4 look if you fancied. However any sub 3k 928 is surely going to be a bit of a dog / money pit?

A friend of mine has an s4 and loves it. Any issues he's had have been electrical but he does his research and most of the parts are shared with less exotic cars and hence cost less. He's thinking of moving it on to get a 997 so hasn't been put off Porsches at least! lol

i used to have a 1990 s4 GT manual, lovely car, fast, and the brakes were something else, would stop u almost instantly, as said before, vacuum pipes control just about everything so can be a pain if they leek, they all use oil but thats not an issue, parts are no to bad to get, i used to run a forum for the 928 many moons ago (928gb) still in contact with a couple of people off it, and the 928 in my user name comes from my old 928 days

it was said that 1 928 in 14 was a manual, so yes they are rare, they are a dog leg manual as well, 1st is were u r used to 2nd being, and reverse is were first is normally, that takes some getting used to

heres my old beast siitting on 19's

Thanks for the replys guys!

If I get one, I'll be happy with an auto cause classics are for cruising!

I don't mind getting one needing a little cosmetic tlc but I would want it to be mechanically sound.

I found one that looks quite nice for the money on PH, I'll post a link up later

I've got an S4 Digi Dash model that i'm slowly recomissioning after been laid up for 4 yrs. Guy took it in to get aircon fixed and never came back!!!

Dont let the Auto's put you off, they are still very quick cars, and with an x-pipe and rear muffler bypass could pass for any muscle car.
