That's because the PF board at the time crashed spectaularly and my entire login/post count was lost. So when they sorted it out, I created a new profile in May of 2004.
Chop, my Cossie was so shit an RST was a step UP
I'm convinced it was bannana shaped ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Not quite that epic.................

This was the car that with the same amount of power, same ( or slightly narrower ) width tyres, same weight was just as fast ( or faster ) on a road or track as what people, even these days, will tell you was the 'best handling M3 ever'. That was a good trick SVE managed to pull off with a car that didn't handle! I seem to recall the four wheel drive ones didn't do too bad in road comparisons either. One of the current EVO writers said he'd pick a 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth over an Integrale to attack a twisty piece of road.
And do you mean 'handling' or 'roadholding/grip' ( 2 different things ).
I'd agree though, an unloved car with knackered shocks, bushes, 330bhp of peaky power delivery and on a set of Linglong Ditchfinders will feel horrible

And it is natural, if for example a gearbox crashed if the power is higher than the gearbox can handle........ has nothing to do with reliability.
Cossies are more special (racing history), Evos more mass-produced, that's the reason for the cheapness I think, even if the quantity is getting rare.
Would go for an underrated cossie than for an overrated evo (don't mean evos are bad or outstanding good). There are much more better and underrated jap cars than evos like Charade GTti, Mazda 323 etc. if you ask me but tastes differ.

Do you mean they don't handle as well as a newer car? Or 'don't handle' compared to other 25 year old cars?

As they're a Ford, it takes a fair few years before people start lavishing the care and attention on them that stuff like the E30 M3 has enjoyed fairly consistently.
Friend has had a few Merc 190 2.3/2.5-16s.
The first one he had he got really cheap.......it was a 2.3 and it was a bit knackered - odd tyres, tired bushes and links. If you based your opinion of those cars on that example you'd have a far different viewpoint than if you tried his current 2.5-16. That REALLY does feel great to drive.

Think it must be the nice weather we're having up here but I'm getting a bit of a cossie vibe again. Don't get me wrong, I love my Evo, but it doesn't feel like it's going to kill me at any point. I think I miss that
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Especially seeing some of the threads here, really hankering after a nice Saff. My brother reckons I should go for a newer hot hatch type car but that's just not me anymore.
My question is, am I stupid
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
So are we both stupid lol.

They weren't working properly then - the standard 4 pots are great brakes for a car of that era - road testers raved about them compared to stuff that was on BMs and Mercs of that time

They only had to stop a 1200kg car with 200bhp - have a look at an M3 or M5 from that time and see if you think Ford short changed 2wd Cossie buyers ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
If you compare a 25 year old car to a modern one you can point out lots of deficiencies. An F40 or 959 get comprehensively tonked by the latest offerings.

but what you got to look at is you being picky becuasethe lad said brake not break, when you know full well what he meant, so i just quoted you on how shit they are but also agreed that modern brembos are just as bad
then as you went back in time for some strange reason and are still living in the past, in std form and new the 4 pots would be ok, but after over 25 years things start to get a bit worn and will never be upto the job of modern calipers
so next time instead of being a picky person because someone misplaced a word, try not to come back with a sarcastic reply, then the conversation would of been kept on track
and harris dont know what your problem is, have never seen a positive post or useful information out of you

exactly my point, you went off subject, and started going on about brakes, for no reason when you knew clearly well he meant breaks, which tbh cossie do there old hat now, hence i wanted something fun, reliable and didnt break down or make me worry everytime i drove it, doesnt mean i still wont own a cossie though

So you've stated that they are "shit".....but then gone on to say that you don't care what they were like new. You say you're not comparing them to modern brakes or even brakes from their own era?
What do you regard as "shit" about them? Lack of stopping power, design?

I done it, owned a couple of Sapph Cosworths mid 90's, 2wd and 4wd, 3 Evo's, IV, VI, VII in the mid-late 00's, been back in Cosworth ownership since last July after selling my Evo VII XT330, the Evo was a great car but I just get a better feeling when out driving my Stage 3 Sapph and so far it hasn't broken once...
