Some of you may be remember i was thinking of buying a number plate from ebay. Well, i did and it all went fine no issues at all.
Now i need new number plates. Is there anyone on here that does plates? Everyone on ebay seems to have suppliers names & postcode on the bottom. Is this now a legal requirement? If i'm having someone elses name and postcode on the bottom i may aswell get them through work for about £8 the pair. - I dont want a border, name, postcode, gb sticker, fancy background or fancy writing just a basic number plate!!
But, if i get hold of a "show plate" without the postcode/name on am i going to get in trouble with the police/vosa/mot time ?
& what about pressed aluminium plates? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3D-Embosse...item1c263294ba
Are they legal? Or do you think it would look shit? Car is a mk4 golf. Any views?!

Those in the link are not legal, they have to be of a certain size, height, font and spacing for the automated cameras to be able to read so plod may give you a producer and come MOT time its a fail. For MOT just stick on legal ones for the test.

german plates on a UK car are both gay and illegal.
BSau145d requires the manufacturer name and postcode.
Even if you get a plate made with correct font, spacing, typeface etc, then it will still be illegal without the manufacturer on it.
The only reason is so that in theory the police can prosecute a plate manufacturer if they supply illegal plates for on road use. In reality no plate manufacturer would do that and would use the get out clause of stating "for off road use only".

yeah i'm not interested in the german stamp on it or nothing, just the plates being aluminum instead of plastic.
But it seems such a fucking minefield i might not bother, just get a bit of cardboard or something!

Have bought (plastic) plates in Halfords.
Only because they appear to not have any other markings on them except the numbers/letters...but look closely and they are fully legal plates. The name and the BS numbers etc are there just done is such a way that they appear transparent till viewed close up.
I personally think plates with no boarders names etc look far nicer on a vehicle.
Hope that helps.

an illegal way round it, if its a pre-2001 car, is to get a show plate manufacturer to manufacture you a plate to BS AU145a specification. That is the old specification so youd get away with the minimum all round distance and no postcode.
technically they are illegal to fit post 2001, however how would a copper prove they were not already on the car?? realistically they cant.

Smit, thats just what i want, but it is a 2003 car and if a copper wanted to get arsey i guess he could find out it have a plate transfer in 2012 therefore plates made to a pre 2001 spec are illegal?
