Default Vernier pulley setting

How are cams set with the vernier pullies? What is needed?

im sure you need a top dead centre gauge for starters but ive only ever done my x-flow ,
never done a twin cam

DTI on mag stand gauge,360 degree protractor,and a rod to sit ontop piston at TDC under DTI gauge.All @ Burton power and read my thread.
Race Yb Vernier pullys ?

Use standard marks and then have them dialled in on the rollers.
been there done that and this is the easiest solution.

why do you think its easier on the rollers - do you mean to find 'preferred' timing rather than cam manufacturers spec?

yes

On a pinto injection years ago I set timing to Kent's figures checked and checked and checked only to find on the rollers it gained over 20bhp by advancing pulley one notch on the vernier.

All engines are different so optimum is only imo gained on a rolling road or engine dyno.

I agree, I’ve seen quite a few dialled to manufacturer spec that would appear to continue making power 5k past year rev limiter.
Playing with cams on the Dyno doing a swing session allows you to shift the power to give maximum torque where you want it, I tend to try and get the power to just be on the turn at the limiter.
