I used to work with Range Rovers for about 6 months. My neighbour also had the diesel from new in 1998. He had a lot of trouble with it though. Have driven a lot of them and all I can say is do not buy a manual and you are making the best choice by going for a dealer warranty. Space wise they are fantastic inside but I found the diesel very underpowered for its size.

I have been told by a few people to for the the warrenty

They are a little underpowered but i will be having it Chipped/Mapped so that will give it about 40bhp more and better fuel economey

Ive got a ' 98 Diesel Manual , was flat as a fart until i had it "tuned " by a local Diesel firm ( they race offshore power boats ) it now goes much better and does 30 mpg round town and 35 on a run , best tow vehicle ive owned , although ive not had a Diesel Amazon yet . Agree that the P38 is a better shape imo than the new ones but its still a shame about the engine , if only they had put a V8 turbo diesel in them !!
the one word to Remember is WARRANTY tho !

My 4.6HSE was a nighmare for breaking things! was making some terrible and expensive sounded noises when I sold it as well
