I won't live very long tho if I take out a lona and ain't got the money to repay it

And I ain't got the space for a THIRD double bass drum 9pc kit (to recap, if I bought this I'd have SIX bass drums, TWELVE rack toms, and SIX floor toms = 24 drums plus all my snares )

Been doing some reasearch tho, and the chances of THAT kit actually being owned and played by Lars Ulrich on the black album tours (or at any time) is HIGHLY unlikely....

Purely cos here is a kit may mate in the US owns;

Which funnily enough is exactly the same kit. It is one of about 25 that Tama released in 1992 as a "signature" kit to celebrate Lar's and Metallica's success with the black album and to honour Lars as their (Tama's) biggest endorser.

So it looks like this guy (on ebay) has one of these "signature" kits, which whilst it ain't a genuine Lars-owned kit, it is pretty rare, and at least kinda official seeing as it was offered by Tama and not just a "make it yourself" repro,

Shame, cos as much as I have wanted THIS EXACT kit since I was 12yrs old, I can't afford to stick myself in huge debt for it - I would have if it really had been genuinely owned by Lars himself tho

Ah but there is mark - I have asked the seller for the serial number from each drum, and if he proivides me with them I can ring up a guy I used to deal with when I worked in the drum industry (he is the UK rep for Tama) and he can have the serial numbers checked out by Tama HQ in the US and it will identify each drum : tell em when they were made, who originally owned them and whether thay are A) origiannly genuine Lars-owned drums b) whether thay are official "signature" kits series drums officially released by Tama or c) none of the above

If they ARE genuinely his, then yes, I will figure out a way to buy them. I may have the sell the ones I just bought, along with take a loan and go without food for several months and give up smoking

But the chances of them actually being his are slim - VERY slim

Check all the Metallica multimedia you have Thrush, and use you're resources on the net, but I'm pretty sure that during the release of the black album, and I think it was the "Wherever I May Roam Tour", Lar's never used that drum kit, if he did, the skin's are different.

Dan - the black album tour of 1991-1993 (or the Nowhere Left to Roam tour as it was dubbed) lars did use a kit identicle to that one. And on this lads kit the skins are the same (Remo Pinstripe clear heads) unless you mean the front bass drum heads? If you did, then you are correct - Lars never played with any heads with his signature on them - the heads on this ebay kit are the heads that came with the "signature kits" - a limited number of kits released by Tama in 1992 to celerate Metallica's success with the black album, and to honour Lars as their biggest endoser

Thats what makes me think this kit isn't a genuine Lar's-owned/played kit - along with the fact the guy has no Certificate of Authenticity : all he can give me is "the lad I bought it off assures me he was presented it personally by Lars himself"

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight...

Aye BIlly is a monster behind the kit - god-like tho? THink I shall leave that to Bonham

Markk - I happen to think it is one of the best LOOKING kits ever so Plus the sound from those Tama Artstar birch shells is just su-fookin-perb... And no, looks AREN'T everything - You can have a £10,000+ Pearl Masters Custom (sound and looks) but if you can't play for shit, then your shit - plain and simple
