Default fiesta st brakes on a puma

hey guys ive boughta puma to modify slightly and use as my daily runner and im looking to upgrade the front brakes, i want to keep stock wheels on so i dont want to do the 300mm upgrade as its a lot of work for a novice like me, so id like the 280mm upgrade from a fiesta st but do i need carriers and callipers or does it just bolt to the puma hubs?
grateful for any help

Hi mate, you will need the calipers, you should be alright with the 15s left on. I think the easiest was is mondeo mk3 calipers and focus st170 discs. best place to check is projectpuma forum

You will need the calipers from the ST150. The great thing about putting that setup on is that it's the largest Ford standard setup that still used the M10 bolts to hold the caliper on. If you go the Mk3 Mondeo caliper / ST170 disc route, you need to drill the carrier out to accept the M12 bolts the MK3 mondeo calipers need to secure.

Lots of info on ProjectPuma.com as mentioned. I should know, I co-founded it

I have st brakes on my puma, needed 5mm spacers when using the standard wheels. Good upgrade though!

puma-dal ive not long joined project puma but it doesnt hurt to seek advice where i can
so the fiesta st option suits the car best and i want to keep the car as standard looking as possible, the mondeo route would have been slightly cheaper for me as ive keep the nearly new drilled and grooved discs off my focus but then i read something about the brake servo not been up to the job on the later cars

scotty4130 which wheels did you have on and is it a good improvement over the standard brake set up?

The earlier servo is stronger than the later one.

ive done the km3 mondeo conversion as i already had the st170 discs.

as said, drill the hub holes out and you need to grind the outer corners off the callipes for the wheels to clear but this is only a tiny bit so wont effect the calliper strength etc.

wheel weights will need to be relocated to inner sides of the wheel spokes.

mine is a 51 plate and ive had no issues at all with the brakes, infact they are pretty brutal lol

much better than the std setup which was just poor.

on an old puma we had i fitted 4x4 cossie brakes to it, but had to cut off the front abs rings for the discs to fit etc, that was ok for a track car tho. but imo the mk3 mondego ones are better still.

only pic i have, which isnt great lol

Another thing to remember is you get a much better choice of pads with the st brakes.
