In your expert opinion do you reckon it actually exists? Or that it was broken up long ago?

The Youth. 28-02-2012 12:43 PM

Really is a dream car to own, wish i did.

lee2cossies 28-02-2012 01:39 PM

Well it's moonstone so that should narrow it down a bit! The 1st one ended up in Sweden hasn't it? Which is a shame.

PAUL S 28-02-2012 01:50 PM

I am on the case. Spoke to Graham Robson again a few days ago on the phone about it and now following up some leads he provided. He actually said the one in the pic is probably any of the moonies that just happened to be closest to the banner at the time -could even be mine!

I dare say Graham was in the background when the pic was taken too! ;-)

from left to right

John Griffiths - Ford
Mike Moreton - Ford
Mike Goddard - Ford

and then two Tickford engineers

I am in in the process of getting in contact with the first two chaps, the third gent is no longer with us, I also have contact info for another two key engineers plus Stuart Turner the head of ford motorsport back then.

If these guys dont know the story of it I guess no one will.

It was last taxed in the uk in 1989, so more than likely now abroad, or even lost for good.

I also spoke to Ford this week, they have no info on it and I did to try and see if they wanted to be involved in getting the engineers all back together for the 25th celebrations at Silverstone

They didnt want to know.

ill get shot for saying this but i believe the no.1 that went to sweden was actually not the real no.1 but a copy and the real no.1 is still in the uk, it used to belong to a mate of mine who sold it to the guy in sweden, he told me himself it wasnt the real one sadly he has since died so i cant tell you any more than that apart from the area the real no.1 was supposed to be kept in

he did say Dan that there are quite a few shots from different angles that Ford still have copies of, so no doubt you are correct.

DanW@FastFord 28-02-2012 02:35 PM

While it's fantastic that you've got in contact with the important people involved with the RS500, I strongly suspect that once the cars left their hands the trail will go cold.

Your probably spot on, but they may remember if it stayed with ford for the first year, or whether it was just treated just like one of the others and shipped straight out to a dealer. Even now if its still around the owner may not even know what they have.

None of the previous owners of mine had any idea it was 499, right up until I found it last year.

how can you tell is there a small plate saying 500/500 or is it by a code ?

PAUL S 28-02-2012 03:11 PM

It was confirmed via the vin number against the original tickford build list for me by Daz at the time. The plaque is added by the owners once they know their build number. I have recently added one to mine.

My chassis number is actually one digit after no 500s vin

Would be pretty cool to discover you actually had 500/500!

I wish you well in your search!

Hmmm... sounds like sour grapes to me...

hynes67 28-02-2012 03:22 PM

do you have a pic of the plate ? is it a ford plate or one you can have made up ?

7sean7m7 28-02-2012 03:26 PM

So if you have to compare the vin plate, any one of the legit 500's could be number 500 or no 1?

Rs500 Chassis numbers consecutive GG38600 - GG39099 = 500 cars ..
Ford No 1 38600 is overseas Ford no 500 39099 is in the UK and owned by a forum user ..
Tickford No 001 is in Norway , Tickford no 500 location under investigation ,many theories ..
Cars went through Tickford in no particular order hence why the chassis numbers are not in order .

The theory i said in my previous post that you pm'd me about cannot be proved unless no.1 came back from norway to be identified correctly which wont happen so i take back my previous post unless i get more info of the current person storing the car

I have a gut feeling after some digging about that it may not have ever left the original stable:grin:

Be interesting to see if it gets dusted off for Silverstone:top:
