I'd like to know more about them too.

I've seen they use plates like a plated diff but they don;t use the whole assembly and feature an 'S' shaped clip in the middle?

Yea, it's a weird one, dont think they are that good really. And they still have only a single diff pin through it. Although doubt you'd have any strength issues in the Firenza.
I just refuse to use any diff with a diff pin !!

The Ford Racing Torsen is an ATB, and usually around $600, bargain compared to some !

Although there are plenty of plated diffs available for the 8.8" and all at under $600. Generally most parts are pretty cheap for them

I'm going to see how the std diff gets on and then swap to a perrrrrlated type after.

Complete stab in the dark here with a blunt spoon, but has anyone used or think it would be possible to use 2 propshaft sections, joined with a Thomas Coupling in the middle?
http://heliwrench.blogspot.com/2008/...couplings.html
This show's the coupling for those that don't know.
We use these on our Helicopters to connect tail rotor driveshafts.

For what purpose ?

All you're doing is introducing a weakness for no benefit. Little different to those stupid big rubber donuts the OEM use to reduce vibrations etc

@ graham.

It's overall length and diameter that matter, and of course material, although 99% of people here will be using steel. There are some online calculators for critical speed, havent a damn clue how half of them work though lol

The Mark Williams table above is easy to understand, and most shafts made in the US will be 3" diameter or larger.

But if you dont have any vibration issues, then you dont have anything to worry about. That said, you should never run the shaft to its critical speed as it will fail as the shaft is flexing violently even if it isnt visible ( and yes I did jack the car up and view it at speed lol )

If running a split prop you wouldn't try to make a small front section to fill the gap in your pic, you would shorten the rear section and move the mount back too.

It could be feasible to make a short section for that.

3ft is pretty short so it's unlikely to pose a problem but you'd need to determine your maximum shaft speed and whether or not you will ever reach anywhere near it.
