Aint as bad as you think

take glove box out
you will see fuses cradle, there will be 2 black turn screws underneath, turn them dis lodge the fuse cradle and place it to the side or shove as far up as you can, now, you will need to unbolt the metal holder that holds the fuse cradle in place (1 bolt iirc) pull it off the bulk head and you have the access to the side of pollen filter housing, there is 2 or 3 star screws that hold the end cap of filter housing on undo those un clip end off and boom your at the filter

Seriously isnt as bad as it seems but most ford mechanics do not change them while a car is in for a service as they are lazy bastards in my opinion

Ive changed these twice on family members focus mrk 2s

I don't take the glovebox out, but each to their own.

Remove the carpet piece under the fuse box (2 x clips that pull off)

Undo the 2 x 13mm nuts under the fuse box for the bracket with a deep socket & long extension and undo the 2 x screws that hold the fuse box in (can do these by hand)

Pull the fuse box down and to the left, the wiring doesn't let it move far. Take the bracket out. Remembering how the fuse box fits into it.

Undo the 3 screws with 7mm socket for the cover on the pollen filter. Hope there's not a vent pipe going into the glove box.

Slide out the cover, it hooks into the heater box on one edge.

Pull out the pollen filter, thanking fuck it's flexible. Slot the new filter in, with arrows pointing toward the airflow.

Refit the cover, fuse box bracket and fuse box and carpet piece.

Swear a bit.

True, I worked at a large Ford dealer that was very much bonus driven and everyone lobbed them in the bin!!

Fiestas have the tx20 screws, I did one on a Volvo V40 or whatever the Focus shares it's platform on and they have 1 plastic wing nut instead of the 3 screws!

done loads of mk2 focus ones and new mondeo, fusebox out altogether IMO on new mondeo, propper bastard

just goes to show manufacturers mentality really,

mondeo TDCi`s ran exactly the same engines as X types with same injectors and harness but ford chose to use their own derivative of the Seimens ECU, mondeos have massive problems with ECU`s and never ever seen an X type fail, ever!

draw your own conclusions

torx screws are for the fusion/fiesta!

And never take the fuse box out, the multiplugs are a bit cheap and can get damaged very easily. & then you need to piss around finding the radio code!

Worst one in my experience is the cmax or focus with climate control that has the pissy pipe screwed to the pollen filter cover!

Also chuck two of the screws in the bin, it doesn't need three screws ffs!

& as for chucking them in the bin, yes i'm well aware that some technicians do this, but eventually it will lead to failure of the blower motor/rheaostat as it just isn't able to suck air through a blocked filter and it's the air running past these componants which keep them cool so they don't overheat/fail.

Exactly that. However certain models have the cold air feed to the glovebox which is a t20 screw i think if i remember right and then you just pull the pipe to one side. Dont need to take the fuse box or glove box out on focus or the new mondeo. Both simple to do and can be done in 5mins.
