Default Brake Bias...

Hi all

I am in the process of sourcing all the bits for a rear disc conversion on my MK4 fiesta. Im running Mondeo V6 front discs, calipers, pads etc. But as im running approx 200bhp i thought its time to scrap the rear shoes / drums. TBH they dont do anything at all at the momnt....apart from lift off on heavy braking!! haha.

So, the question.. When i do this i know i will need to adjust the brake bias. What is the rule for braking bias? I work at a car dealership wit MOT rollers so have the ablity to adjust the front / rear distribution exactly as i need it .... i.e 60% front 40% rear?? or??

Thanks very much,

Matt

I have a bias adjuster on my track RS2000 mk5, and its set pretty much to be 80/20 front to rear.

I tested it by driving along and braking as hard as I could without locking the fronts, but if the rears locked, I would back it off a touch and try again, each time trying as best I could to brake on the same part of the road and with the same braking effort, to try and keep things the same.

If you change anything, different make of brake pads, tyres, tyre pressure, spring rates etc etc then you'll have to set it up again.

This is for tarmac, on the loose its a whole new ball game that i'm not brave enough to try!
