really Oranoco?
i was always thaught otherwise.
what about new VOSA regs then, any car supposed to have cat (any year) must have one fitted and working
interesting this as i had a lot of trouble after an imported civic had a K20 turbo conversion with no car (1996 saloon/coupe thing), we failed it on emissions and no car, lad went to VOSA and he had to leave his car with vosa, we we advised we were right and he had to fit a cat,
im aware that fitting older engine in car, it was only engine year that was applicable, i.e like my A4, 1999 car but runs 1991 2.2 20v Turbo 5 pot and needs no cats.
interesting thread!
Info from Stevie Turbo, anything here you can shed light on?
Sean.

That's always been my understanding on the subject, and am sure that's what I found reading through some of the manuals. I was asked to do some digging for a friend who'd been told the same when he got his 93 WRX. The information I found on this was backed up by another user on here at the time
Engine swaps the need for a cat is governed by whichever is the older of the 2, car body or engine. For example putting a Zetec engine in a Mk2 Fiesta you would not need a CAT. Put a Cossie engine into a Focus and again you won't need a CAT. Put a Focus ST170 engine into a Mk6 Escort and you would need a CAT

Every impreza we sent for a test, and GC8`s were my only car i worked on besides Evo g/boxes and clutches all day every day, failed on no cats, import or not
we tried the import 10 digit chassis number every time and got bitch slapped with emissions fail![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
grey imports are a grey area LOL

Correct me if I am wrong but there appears to be confusion here, as far as I am aware there is not any specific requirement on an MOT that the car HAS to have a cat, only that it must pass the emissions test levels that woud be applicable IF it came with a cat in the first place.
i.e late spec cos with cat removed, passes an emissions test=legal MOT
I did hear of talk that they were going to change the regs so that it specified there had to be a cat fitted, but I thought that was all hear say???
