Question Location of engine number

Hi can anyone help me, Im looking for the engine number on my 1996 RS2000 engine. I need it for insurance. I dont have the log book through yet so obviously I cant get it from the V5.

It says in the manual that its on the block but there are alot of numbers around the block can anyone help me locate the correct one for the engine number.

Thanks Cliff

Its can be found in a couple of places, depending on how Ford felt at the time....

Its either just under the head on the front of the engine block, around the area of the o/s mount, mine is to be found here.

Or

Its on the side of the web near the starter motor, though I have not actually seen it in that location, but people have said that it can be found there.

Is it not on your V5?

Mines NK5140 and its stamped into the block just above where the front engine mount would locate, no oval around it, which does not conform to the ones you have....

The 2.3 block I have has the engine number laser etched into the web by the starter motor, and this may well be the location for the mk6, especially a later one like you have?

I can't it's a different engine. Thanks for offer of your help though that's brill.

I cannot find anyothers numbers other than those stated above. However I don't belive any of those to be right as an engine number is usually the last 5 numbers of a vin. Eg, VX55544 so I'm lost
